ok now, i do watch when morgan poops outside but i do it from the doorway just basically looking to see if she has diarrhea or not. you guys get right on in there and inspect it right down to the bone fragments LOL i've never noticed bone fragments or flaxseeds in her poop. i figure at long as she isn't straining and as long as she doesn't have cannon butt she's good to go :D |
I am happy to report that there was no runny poop today!! :D |
most wunnaful! :D |
I know that heart is muscle but what about gizzards? Can they have gizzards? What are the symptoms of potential problems with feeding raw? There is no runny poo or vomiting but Delilah is acting kinda odd this evening. She still eats good and going to bathroom but really droopy and not very happy...no spark, does that make sense? She felt great this morning, she got up excited about eating and afterward she ran a bit outside full of energy....completely opposite now. Gosh, will I ever stop worrying excessively? |
Gizzards = innards. Yes, they can have them. Mine love 'em. Some people report "abnormal" behavior in their pets when starting out. Abnormal from how they were previously on kibble (carbs/sugar). Some seem to perk up (more energy). Others seem to become more sedate - coming off the carbohydrates. You may even find she's more attentive - less hyper. But, still happy! Just - different than how she's been thus far. Her body is working to digest, now. Let's see how she is in the morning. I'll bet she's rested and ready to go again! |

Ah, i was wondering about the gizzards too. Morgan gets all the insides from the turkey on thanksgiving and i was wondering if it was all good for her. |
Some dogs do get very sleepy for a while when they first go onto raw, part of the detoxification period, their bodies are busy ridding themselves of the toxins and digesting the new food. It happened to mine, but then after a while what I noticed was their energy levels became more consistent, instead of carb 'highs' followed by sudden 'lows' they stayed consistently calm yet energetic throughout the day. |

The only change I can remember in Lacy was her peeing more at first. She was eating kibble and then switched to the moist raw food so I think her body just wasn't used to all that water at first. She had a couple accidents in the house and I took her out more often. But it soon balanced itself out and she was peeing as normal |
Yes, Delilah is peeing more also, but not drinking as much water. I am kinda worried about her. She did not eat tonight and her tummy is tight as she has been eating too much. She has pooped today but I wonder if she could be impacted/constipated due to all the bone in the NV. I gave her a bit of pumpkin. If they have liver problems does the raw exasperate it? Don't know that she does but I have noticed at times she will be standing by be and just staring at the floor. I worry too much! |
Well, first of all, try to stick to portions and set meal times for now, don't let her over eat. Give her some live yogurt to aid digestion. Its normal for them to not drink as much, because raw has alot of water in it. Its also normal for them to poop less because as raw is grain free, their bodies absorb more of it so they therefore produce less waste. Your probably worrying over nothing and watching out for her behavior more closely than you normally would because of the diet change (naturally), its what moms do. But, if your worried that she could have liver problems then see the vet, not specifically raw but any high protein diet does not cause or worsen a liver condition but it can bring out the symtoms, therefore alerting you to the problem. |

Oh yeah, I have decided no matter how pitiful she looks sniffing around the empty dish looking for more I will NOT give her more! Is it any wonder that my skin kids are spoiled too? I am such a push over. I gave her a bit of pumpkin and yogurt tonight and she just came in from potty so her bowels are still moving...actually held her up to my ear to see if I could hear gut sounds! If you had told me a year ago I would become obsessed with canine waste I would have laughed in your face......:p So we are eating chicken/turkey now, going to buy another bag this weekend....which meat does your babies seem to enjoy? I was thinking maybe rabbit or duck? Whatcha think? |
