| Very Stupid Question I was told by a Yorkie breeder that changing a Yorkies Diet WILL kill them. I think this is BS I understand if you don't switch slowly they and get upset tummies but Can they really die?? all feed back welcome |

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | I'm no expert, but I seriously doubt this is true. Marty has snatched things up off the floor which have been dropped with no problems at all. Also, I've switched his food a couple of times (by mixing the old and new) and he's never had a problem with it. I think if this were true it would be common knowledge because some people switch their dog's food fairly often. |

| Changing food I'm in the process of changing Bogey's food to Life's Abundance. He's almost two & you just start mixing the new with the old and increase it gradually. I've never heard of changing food resulting in death! By the way, Bogey's food got changed the first time when I brought him home at age 11 wks.

| that's not true..we changed the girls food as soon as we got each of them. they did not even have the loose stool..you can't die from switching food unless the food itself contains dangerous ingredients |

| LOL, of course not! Many people feed lots of different foods or rotate foods switching often. Obviously if they have been fed the same food for a long time then you want to do it slowly but no its not going to kill them, goodness me. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Holy BS! That's crazy talk! LOL. I suppose if I wracked my brain....I suppose the only way it could "kill" them was if there was such an allergic reaction to some ingredient that they went into shock (like some humans do w/ peanuts or shellfish).

| diet What can happen is..some Yorkies are prone to pancreatis problems when the diet is abruptly changed...it may start as a loose stool and if not stopped it can progress to full blown diaherra..left unchecked that can cause death from dehyration, hypoglycemia..especially a young puppy or a tiny.. |

| I have changed foods a few times with no problems. I do understand about the upset tummie thing though, If you do it gradually, you should be fine.
