~~~Which kinda Coat is this?~~~ 3 Attachment(s) Which kind of coat do you think Stormy has? She is 6 1/2 monhs old. I am starting to think it is Cotton. Her coat has always been wavy & thick! I use a Conditioning Shampoo, Conditioner, Almond Oil & Water Rinse & a Leave-In Detangler. It is very hard to brush or Comb even when wet. The 1st & 2nd pictures of her now at 6 mths old - the last one is her at 2 months old. |
Has she had her first haircut yet? I think it's kind of hard to tell until they have their first cut. |
Let me first preface this by telling you I am not an expert.... I would think though that she would have a silky coat because it seems to be reflecting the light which I thought was one was you can tell. How about her eyes when you take a photo? Do they reflect green or red/amber. If green, supposedly her hair should be silky. If red, cottony. Anyways, my guess is either a silk or possibly modified silk. Plus her puppy coat is probably growing out and I went thru a period of time where Zoe's hair was more difficult to brush thru and it was probably right around 6 months I think. Anyways, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will post for you. Good luck - she's a very pretty girl! |
I have heard of eyes reflecting colors rule. BUT..... She is still a puppy - her eyes reflect blue right now. Scruffy is a modified silk & his eyes reflect gold. Kylee is a silk coat & her eyes reflect gold Lexi is a wirey modified coat & her eyes reflect green. My friend has a cotton coat & his eyes reflect purple! Thanks for your tips... |
Looks Silky. Beautiful Whatever kind of coat she has |
shes very pretty have you ever tried combing her before her bath? thats what my groomer told me to do and its not that bad to comb after.he said the hair will tend to matt up if you dont comb it first.just passing on a tip |
what is "modified silky"? |
I think it is inbetween Silk & Cotton. Here is a picture |
She is adorable-her coloring and coat reminds me of my Milli! Milli has a silky coat, but it's really soft-I think that's what yours looks to have too. |
Look at the hair on her paws, they would be the first to reflect her true coat texture. |
Also I think the coat looks like a silky.....Stormy reminds me of Izzy's coat. |
Does Izzy have a wavy coat too? The breeder told me she was a silky coat. But her coat is so hard to manage - maybe because it is soooooo thick. I thought silky coat was easy to comb or brush. |
I will check their paws when they awake - they are all crashed out right now. Thanks for the tip. |
If you have a mat....use the side of a small slicker brush to work it out....slowly, do not force it...just gently work. |
She has a silky coat and still mats but just a little on her hind legs where she squats..lol. She isn't that hard to comb/brush but I wish I could learn how to wrap and use the oil on her to make her coat even better. |
It is tempting to comb her inbetween baths! I actually brush her coat out after bath with a lil slicker brush & then blowdry with the Isnis Brush because it is sooo thick! Your right about hard work - I am not used to having one with such a thick coat. I guess its that champion blood line in her. |
I know that Baby's hair is pure silk b/c it doesn't matte at all. When she had her puppy coat it did a little. But now, not at all. Now, my two aunts have Yorkies with pure cotton coats and they get mattes all over...especially under their legs and neck. Plus, silky coats and cottony coats although both soft, feel different. ;) |
The feet I thought you were supposed to look at the feet first...to see if the coat is silky.....and the eye relection color.......????? Mary, this is where you can jump in....LOL:):) |
yet her eyes shine green/amber when we take pictures .... It is probably best to ask a breeder in person or a groomer ... |
As the reflection of eye color in photographs....I've been told that this is a myth.....although, I've found this to be a good indication, at least 99% of the time..... |
Brushing a dirty coat only breaks it. |
I agree never brush a dirty coat but of course if you keep the coat very short it wouldn't matter. Show dogs are definetley groomed different. Funny thing is I do use a comb on wet hair with wide teeth. Just like my hair I don't use a brush on wet hair I use a wide toothed comb. Whatever works for one doesn't always work for the other. I've never had a problem using a comb on wet hair as long as I take it small sections at a time. I work through a matt with ice on ice and with my fingers. I never use a slicker brush. This is just how I do things....I always have my dogs in oil and wrappers. Donna |
I have some that won't stay in wrappers....do more damage the help.....so, I keep those in Almond Oil. Boys are kept in plastic wrappers so I don't oil.....worry about mildew (just me)....girls I keep in paper/silk wraps. But, then as you said show dogs are different then pets...and diligent care is necessary... Unless, campaigning a dog....they are cut down after Championing....much less worry and so the dogs and I are much happier. |
If I didn't keep Radar in oil with his wrappers I'd have more matts than I could shake a finger at and I've never had mildew so again if it's not broken no need to fix :) LOL |
