Question Leg help needed!

For my cottony coated girl, I keep her hair short and the hair around the face a bit longer. I can get her to look nice all over except the legs. I don't know how to do them.

Do you use a clipper? Do you scissor cut them? If so, how the heck do you do it???

I can do her body, her nails, her ears, hair inside the ears - everything except her legs...

Chanel is cotton coated - I do her legs with her laying down with SISSORS - never a trimmer -- it seems to work for me....this really wouldn't work for a silky coat but then they don't need much trimming....

for feet - Yorkie Rose told me this trick bend one backwards ...cup your hand around the hair & foot so it surrounds the bottom of the foot and clip straight across even with the pad.

here's a shot of me doing Chanels legs....I cut her at an angle that day...but you can see where I brushed the hair flat ...she had to sit very still...then just cut a straight line to her shoulder. I don't know if this is the right way to do it but it looked nice when I finished

great job v... i can always count on you girly....i only reason i cut lexi's
legs was because they matt very easily and it hurts her when i try to comb
it... its better for the both of us... its growing out now and i think i will let
the groomer do her this time, just once.. and then i can handle it from there..
ive been doing it for a year now and its out of whack right now...

V you did an awesome job there. I need to start practicing so I can do Lulu. She didn't have a good experience the time I took her to the groomers so I don't want to repeat it. I think he got a bit rough with her being as she might have not wanted to stay still with her. I am going to get a set of clippers that come with the how to video so I can learn.

If you don't mind me asking which number clip do you use on the body? The clippers I was looking at comes with 8 size combs that attach to the clipper.

Thanks.

I don't cut the leg hair on the girls. I just keep it neatly trimmed around the feet and out between the pads.

I don't use trimmers on the bodies at all....a groomer did once and poof - she was super short ....I laughed for a week at Leo the Liongirl...I mean Chanel

With cotton coats is alot more work than a silky coat. BELIEVE me lol - and Gina - if Lexi has a silky coat you could probably hold the hair between your fingers and just trim the ends - they'll fall into place and not matt so easily

Ok, I will let the hair grow if you will come to my house and brush her! Seriously, her cottony hair is a nightmare if it gets long....

To hand scissor legs you need to brush all the hair to the inside and then trim a straight line the entire length of the leg, then do the same by brushing the hair to the outside. Then brush what is left to the back and then to the front. If you have a very soft coat you can use a blade with a attachment on it. Here is a picture of a soft coated girl. I use a 1 and a 1/2 snap on , on her legs and then scissor finish them. But for a novice just running the snap on over the legs severalHeidi.jpg
times will get it looking pretty good. Be sure to brush the hair up and run the snap on down until it looks smooth.

The little dog in the picture is one of my clients dogs, she is very cute.

I used scissors, not clippers on the legs. I fluff it up - a slicker brush works for this but not much else! Then I also kind of pull to the side and trim, trim behind the legs, and trim around the feet.

I keep Loki really short because he is in a cotton coat, but I also trim Sammy's legs (her body is trimmed not shaved) and I keep her legs pretty short too. Otherwise it mats under her legs and she "collects" things from the yard...

Thank you! This sounds like it will work with Tinka... Can't wait to try it!

This way sounds like it will work with Kaya who has silky hair. That is if I can get her to lie down. She shakes like a leaf the whole time I'm bathing and grooming her. I think she must of had some not so good experiences at the groomers before I got her. (her owner took her to Petsmart)

Anyhow... thanks for the information!

Lulu is such a beast when it comes to grooming. I want to keep her one level. Not as sort as the cutie pictured above but I want it to be short and just not long (understand :0)) Lulu's leg hair doesn't grow that much it's just her body and she has a cottony coat and the girl matts if I look at her.

I have trained her to go potty outside in the semi-fenced yard (while I am with her) off the leash. So she pretty much doesn't even wear a harness or clothes and is failry au natural for the most part. I need to figure out something because I don't think she is a good candidate to go to the groomers. The person would have to have super patience with her and I am a bit worried about her having to be tethered to the table for them to work.

Anyhow...for those that actually use a set of clippers can you tell me what numbers you use for the clips and in what order you use them. I know I read something about the right steps for blending so it can look good.

Gonna have to try soon becuase she is turning into a bit of a wolf.
