| Grooming Questions How often can you trim the nails? Teddy's nails grow really fast and I have started trimming them myself. I am just kind of tipping them because I am a little skittish doing this right now. I can see the quick on a couple of nails but that is all. Can I tip them more often that once a week? Maybe 4 days apart? Second question. When I am trimming around Daisy's face, I am having trouble getting it to look even. It is coming out choppy looking. Do you cut trim the faces when they are wet or dry? Yesterday I bathed her and tried trimming her face when it was semi dry. It seemed to work a little better than dry. Daisy has really thick hair and hers is harder to do evenly. Does anyone have any suggestions?

| I had the same trouble with faces. I was told to use both scissors and thinning shears. The lightbulb went off for me as soon as I read "thinning shears" as I know you can blend hair easily with them. Maybe that will help. I have separate shears and thinning shears. Yesterday I saw a combination regular and thinning shears -- Not sure how that would work but the concept is interesting.

| Thanks. The thinning shears sounds like what I need. Where did you get them? Can you tell me how they work?

| I am starting out with cheap ones from Walmart -- I think this was a mistake and I should have at least gone to Sally's Beauty Supply for a mid-grade pair. As I learn what I am doing, I will upgrade. With thinning shears, just take small sections at a time, and cut like you would normal scissors, but only half the hair will be cut due to the way the blade is segmented. That way, there is not just a chopped off look to the edge. I have read it is better to get the thinning shears with teeth on both sides. For people hair, I start towards the scalp and work my way out, making maybe 3 cuts or so along the way. I think I will try to do the same with the Yorkie face hair, just closer together. It would probably good for both of us, if someone who is already grooming faces with their thinning shears to add to the thread. My two are not ready for shears yet. I did a bit of grooming with my last Yorkie but always had a time of it looking too choppy around the face. I am sure the thinning shears will help. Just have to go slow and be careful not to let them whack off too much.
