| Matted hair on legs Hello I have only had my wee bundle of joy for a week and I am already noticing matted hair on my puppy's legs. What is the best method to remove them? Right now, I am clipping the matted areas as I find them. Inari |

| When I first got Oscar, he had quite a few matts in his hair - including on his legs. (Just when you think you've conquered them all, you find one of those ever elusive little wee ones that are just big enough to catch on your comb...). I would cut the really stubborn ones - it's easier on you and the dog. If they aren't big, you wont even notice and the shorter hair will blend in with the rest of his coat. There are some sprays you can get at pet stores that are for detangling and matts - just spray on and leave for 10 minutes or so, seems to help loosen it up a bit... plus they smell nice. As a side note, Oscar just had his ENTIRE BEARD shaved off because of one MONSTER matt he's had under there since the day I got him (past the point of no-return, the vet shaved it off while he was out for his neuter). All I can say is keep on top of it - One night of a couple hours getting all those matts out will pay off and mean only a couple minutes of brushing for the days that follow.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would get a good detangler and comb him daily. Also whe cali was little I usd baby wipes on her backend to keep her clean and it seemed to cut down on the mats

| Jewels had matts when she went to the groomers last time and the groomer used detangler and a slicker brush to get the matts out

| I use a detangler to get out the matts. I also use thinning scissors to cut the mat which takes away an even amount and from there all I have to do is brush it out and their hair looks great with no missing fur or gaps of where a matt was. They work great, you should try them if you just don't want to cut the matt out.

| Welcome to YT. Sounds like you have gotten some really great advice. I am not a groomer or a shower, but for my beloved pets, I use a comb and a good detangling product. I have used several and love them all: Ice on Ice CC System - Mane and Tail - Coat Handlers |

| Yes, it is better to work on them wet. Either water or a product. My little Charlee had bad bad mats on her legs too. I tried working the out dry and then found out you should only try to get them out wet. It worked- took me along time but finally- now just comb everyday and no more mats. |

| I absolutely LOVE the red slicker brush made by Les Poochs (www.lespoochs.com) It has a straight and curved side and isn't really hard. The straight side works wonders on mats and doesn't seem to hurt them. I only use it when I have a really bad one on Biscuit as he likes a comb better, but use it much more often of Jolene. It is pricey, but worth it. I also like their shampoos and conditioners, but also a bit pricey and not quite moisturizing enough for Biskie.
