| Top Knot Issue Last week we took Gizmo to PetSmart to get groomed and he left looking very adorable. The groomer tied his hair into a top knot with a little rubberband. We thought it was great because we haven't seen his pretty eyes for quite a while. We decided that from now on we are going to keep his hair this way or atleast until the in between stage grows out. After two days we started to notice that the area around the top knot looked a little abnormal. We took out the rubberband and sadly to say there were mats all over his head. It was so frustrating knowing that there was a possibility he may need to get them shaved off. Just imagine having a bald headed yorkie. That is not a good thing. We picked apart, soaked with conditioning spray, and brushed for about 10 minutes and finally it came loose. Luckily the mats didn't get to the point of no return. Has anyone ever experience anything like this before? What did we do wrong? Are we supposed to leave it on only for one day? Are we supposed to treat the top knot with some type of special conditioning spray? Please advise. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I USUSALLY take out the bows and replace or redo daily. Just treat that hair very carefully - make sure bows not too tight and not too loose and try NOT to make the rubberband too tight fitting - I generally wiggle the TopKnot when I do my girls hair - if it has a little 'give' in all directions - then I know it's not too tight. But I would def change out the bows as often as you can (daily or every other day) to prevent that from happening again. |

| I was going to say what Vee said. Take them out daily. Baby takes her own out daily! About 30 minutes after I finally get it in! Or, my mom takes it out b/c she thinks it will give Baby a headache.

| I leave Ollie's band in all week, and it doesn't get matted. Maybe it's the difference in the hir. I use those new vinyl bands, not rubber. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I comb out Cali's every other day and put the bow back in. I change the bow weekly.

| I always had the tangle problem even with daily changing. I switched to Goodys Ouchless and it made a really big difference. |

| I agreed with Villette. I brush Gucci's Top knot often and she doesn't have it on all day. My husband thinks the same way as Babyfidgette' mom. |
