| nyc. where should I take Mia for her first haircut? My puppy is 4.9 pounds at 5 months and yet so small Im looking for a grooming place for her first puppy haircut as she has way too much hair in her body and is hard to even see her eyes. I was told petco overcharges you, a person I know told me she took her 1 yr old same size as my baby and charged her 90+ for grooming service extra for shampoos conditioner and some other things if she wouldve known it was that much she wouldve never took him there. Anyone in nyc has any references? Some suggested to try petsmart. |

| Hi, I am formally from NY Da Bronx, I never took my babies to a groomer, I had a family member groom all my babies. This family member passed away, my pups became a mess, I took them to Pet Supplies on Central Avenue in Yonkers, against my better judgement, but because I knew of no other place to go I tried them. They did a very good job, but I had them do a puppy cut, so nothing fancy. If this person was charged $90.I would have to say the dog was pretty much matted up. If pup had lots of mates all groomers charge more. Call PetCo. Pet Smart and Pet Supplies ask what they charge, all the extras this person told you she was charged for, ask if these are included in the price quoted. You can just walk in any of these places, have the groomer look at your pups condition, they can give you a ball park figure. $90. sounds over board to me,again, unless her dog was very neglected I could see them charging more, because it takes longer to groom a badly mated dog. I truly cannot believe their regular grooming price would start at $90.If no one can recommend a pvt. groomer I would try one of the above, this will give you time to look around, If you see ppl on the street with a yorkie that looks well groomed, ask them who they use, are they happy with that groomer, and would they recommend you using them. If I see a well groomed yorkie I will ask that person who they use. I prefer to use a groomer that i have seen their work. Call the above see what they charge, ask what is included, like brushing teeth, clipping nails, and cleaning ears. All it will cost you is a phone call. I am also looking for a groomer here in Pa. the place I used for my other babies closed shoppe, they were 2 girls, they did awesome work, a nasty divorce between one of them caused them to have to shut down. I tried several others, but was never happy. Then I had to put my dog down in Oct. I did adopt a lil 3 y/o in mid Nov. who was shaved, I let his hair grow over the winter, I have a neighbor that has 2 lil yorkies, they are always beautifully groomed, I got groomers name from my neighbor and took him there. I was not impressed with the simple puppy cut he got, a lot of uneven face hair, and to go back for them to fix it their hours and mine do not mesh. They have 2 gals that work there, next time I will try the other girl, if I am not happy I will look else where. To give you an idea what groomer charge, with tax I paid $55.00. There was a thread started on YT not long ago asking ppl what they pay for grooming. If you can find it that can give you an idea of what the cost can be. Just keep in mind, if your puppy is mated or has lots of knots they will charge you more, so brush and comb often to avoid paying more at the groomer...Good luck
