Oh boy, that 2nd pic of Galen...

my heart breaks for you! But it also looks like he had a blast while you were away? Sorry he needs to be shaved down. @ least this way, you can start over, grooming time will be enjoyable bonding time for both of you.

This is sad Teri.

I probably would have poured a detanger on each mat until it was slippery and tried to work the mats out. If it didn't work, he would go to the best groomer I know. It will grow back, probably thicker than before.

Next time, maybe your groomer would take him while you are gone.

He is still adorable with his new haircut, but I'm sorry you were forced to have him shaved if you really didn't want to.

I have a dematting comb that works very well to loosen mats so you can comb them out, and it doesn't hurt them. I have to use it on Meika once in a while. Here it is:

Oh my....you are a good friend for waiting til she was gone to get upset. I would have probably raised hell.

So sorry. I didn't see this thread til you linked it in the GE section and I was wondering why he got cut, but you made the right decision. He does honestly look really good with the new 'do.

It took everything in my body to say want did you do to my baby. I think she knows that I am not happy. I can not wait for her to see him shaved. I want her to feel bad.

Thank you. I was so upset. I do think he looks cute. The groomer did a great job.

I just went away and the same thing happened to lola! Not as bad because her hair isn't as long and I wasn't gone for an entire week, but it was bad. I had to spend two hours the first day back, two hours the second day, and an hour today! She is finally looking normal. It's so frustrating that even after explaining to people, they don't really brush them. Next time I'm leaving them with my mom! I am so sorry about all of that matting. I think that you can get it out, it will just take a really long time!

Oh Teri, I'm so sorry. I know I was heartbroken when the vet shaved 1/2 of Phoebes head & cut off her topknot for her cataract surgery. Galen looks adorable with his new haircut and hopefully it will grow back quickly.

I am so sorry you went through it too. He was too covered it mats and they were down to his skin. Even the groomer said he was way to bad to get them all out. I am so glad you were able to get them out. I think to myself. Never again!

Thanks. I am trying to look at the bright spot. Baths will take so much less time. lol
