Yorkie Beard My Yorkie's beard keeps sticking up right at the nose around the mouth (not around the eyes). I have no clue how to get it to stay down. Any advice?

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. You could try a little conditioner in the bath (just be careful not to get it in your pup's eyes). Then comb immediately after the bath with a sort of wide tooth comb. As it dries, move to a narrower tooth comb, taking care not to catch any whiskers. Last, you could use a tiny dab of topknot gel. Pet Silk is formulated for pets.

Thank you. I have tried to blow dry the beard straight but she refuses to let me get the dryer anywhere near the face long enough to get that done. She fights all of grooming though. lol I will google to find where I can locate the top knot gel and give that a try. It's driving me insane trying to get it to stay down. lol

I just wanted to let you know that I took all your advice and I'm happy to say that each week the beard is staying down more and more! Thank you so much! I've been struggling with that for the past 3 years. I should have found you guys and posted sooner! Do I do the same to try and train her top knot to stay out of her eyes (lay to the side out of the eyes)? She fights putting it up and always manages to take out the clips, bows or bands. I took her to the groomer only once and paid $100 for them to chop her hair all up and figured I could do a bad job for free and haven't gone back.

It was a bit of a sticker shock that's for sure. That was when she was about 6 months old I think and it was only supposed to be her nails grounded down (they ended up just clipping them and not even filing them), potty area & bottom of feet trimmed, legs trimmed. They ended up cutting her hair on the body and her top knot went goodbye. Since then I've been doing it myself and learning as I go. I admit she isn't perfect and has sometimes even looked hilarious. lol I'm currently trying the visor cut but I am failing at that I do believe. LOL Perhaps I'll go looking for a new groomer to try out? Can you grow out the body but have the legs kept in a short cut? Her hair likes to tangle the most on her legs so I like it kept short there.

Glad to hear things are working out. Yes, do the same for the top knot. Quote:
You can cut and trim however you like. Make sure her legs get a little extra conditioner and use a leg and mustache comb. Many people shave underneath where it tends to tangle more. My difficulty with trimming above the eyes is partly how my boys ended up with long hair, lol.
