It is a good thing that when you or your dog gets a bad hair cut that the hair does eventually grow back. I would never return to a groomer who does not respect the request I have made concerning my pet's grooming. I bring them there for a service that I am willing to pay for. However, if they take my pet and shave it despite the fact I asked them to do something differently then they will never see me or my pet again. You should be able to discuss with the groomer what is to be done in advance. If the groomer has an issue about your request then they should mention it at the time you bring your pet in. There are also things called cell phones that they can reach you with if somethings comes up during the grooming. The real issue here is that many grooming salons are full of people who have very little training, skill or experience at what they are doing.:( I hope you are able to find someone who will respect your wishes in the future or maybe you can get the equipment and some training to groom your beautiful pet at home. Well said. I have a great groomer here, after going to I swear every other one in my area first...ever think beauty school flunkies end up as groomers? |

From what I have been reading these grooming places are hiring anyone who can turn on a set of clippers! I also found a wonderful groomer after several bad experiences. This groomer has been a real professional groomer for over 20 years. She shows Shih Tzu's on a regular basis and helps others at the shows with grooming as well. She has two people who work with her plus a daughter that does a lot of the ring work. I had avoided going to her at first because she was more expensive than the other places. Well, now I can't believe what I put my little baby through just because of an additional $15.00! I know Gracie is safe when I leave her there. I can pick her up within 90 minutes and she looks gorgeous when I take her home. |

I was so lucky to get a referral from All about the Dog's Doggy Day Care to Dog's Made Hot which is run by a vet tech who decided she liked grooming dog's and being self employed more than having to medically treat dogs-I think after talking it must be a very a frustrating job at times to care more for the safety well being and medical care of another person's dog than they do. How luck are we to find groomers like this!? |

I have to be honest, if I picked my dog up from the groomer to find her shaved down without my consent, they would never forget what my name was as long as they lived. PLEASE tell me you guys didn't PAY the bill for them doing what they did? I would outright refuse to give them a cent for butchering my dog's hair. |

I understand that it's personal preference. Perhaps the word "butchered" was a bit drastic. However, for those that prefer their dogs hair longer, I think it fits the description when you get the dog back shaved. There's a difference between a "puppy cut" and a "shave". If you ask for one and get the other, I don't think it's unreasonable to refuse to pay. If you order a coke and get water, would you want your money back? I, personally, keep Gabby's hair shorter as well. But only because she's cotton coated and it mats up when you look at it. I'd like to have it longer, but it's just not in her best interest. |

While it is a shock to see him like that when you were NOT expecting it, they got rid of all that "puppy down" that soooooooo easily mats and tangles, right down to the skin....his coat will grow out so much easier to care for...unless you have a cotton coated Yorkie, and that is going to be a challenge to keep matt free....I agree with nancy there too...a short puppy cut is a blessing for those dogs! |
I am happy to report that My Max looks SOOO much better now..the hair has grown in very nice on his face and body!! i have even had to trim the hair around his eyes..(yes i did it myself..still dont trust a groomer). the weather has been SOO hot here in NC so the short hair is actually good right now.. |
Glad to hear he is looking and feeling good. Take your time trying to find the right groomer. My groomer specializes in small breed dogs. She is great. She shows Shih Tzu's so she knows how to handle a long coat. She also is very glad to do just what I ask her. Gracie's coat is not thick so cutting it is not really necessary in order to keep her cool. I did let the groomer trim her belly and cut her length to just bellow her belly. Hopefully it will grow back by the time it starts getting cooler here. I also trim the fur just in the inner corner of the eye. I only take her to the groomer about every 3 to 4 months to even up her ends and basically make her look gorgeous. The groomer says she is so much easier to do because she has that silky, single layer coat unlike her Shih Tzu's. |
