| Minksheen question I haven't used minksheen yet, its on its way. I was wondering if you have to blow dry their hair to make it shiny? My Harrah is 8 months and I don't blow dry her after a bath. I do all her grooming myself and I don't even own a blow dryer. Another question I have is, does drying make their hair lay smoother? Anyway, any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | I use Minksheen and I don't use a hair dryer ... my 4 guys would freak out (they are all afraid of it for some reason)

| ZoE usually air dries after her bath in the summer, unless we are going somewhere & time is an issue, then I use the blow dryer too. I blow dry her every time after her bath in the winter (after she's been well towel-dryed and had a few minutes of zoomies first ). Yes, blow drying while combing/brushing does make the hair smoother, just like with human hair.

| I do both. Mine will shine just as much if I use a blow dryer or not. The difference is how the hair lies. If I blow dry, it will be nice and perfectly straight. If I let it dry naturally, it will wind up with a slight wave and will not lie as nicely. I let them dry naturally quite often. But when I want them all pretty, I make sure to blow dry and keep brushing through as I do, just as I would my own. In fact... I use a little bit of my own Redken Smooth Down protectorant on them when I blow dry so as not to have them get hair that is burned from too much hot air. I have never used my flat iron on them -- I don't need to, to get them straight; but I have heard of some that do. It is all in what you are wanting them to look like when done and how much you want to let them just be natural. I only have one of mine in long hair right now. Annie is short and I may keep her like that. I sort of like how she looks like a puppy again and she is much easier to maintain like this. She has a fine hair that required a lot of work when long. Ben is easy, as long as I don't let him get to the floor. Then he brings in all sorts of grass and debris from outside. So, I try to keep him at least an inch off the ground. But he just doesn't tangle or anything. Combs out like a breeze and a blow dry leaves him looking like a prince! I am so partial!

| Thanks for the input. Debra do you use a dryer for dogs or just a regular hair dryer for people? And did it take a long time to get them used to the dryer? I would love for her to look smooth and perfect. |

| I just use a regular hair dryer but you have to watch the settings. You don't want it to hot. I think the more you do it the easier it is on the pups to be used to it. Rosie has been dealing with it since she was 6 months old. She is the best bather ever. Mikki is not so fun to bathe!

| I got Lexi use to a blow dryer by first just having her see me use mine which I use usually everyday. This way she got use to the noise & I acted real happy while using it. She was very curious. Then, I would play a little game with her by turning & giving her a "shot" of the blow dryer, making it a fun time. I did this all within a week's period of time when we first got her & then on to using the blow dryer after her bath & she actually likes it. She waits for me now to give her a "shot" of the warm air from the blow dryer now everyday when I use it. She is really good about getting groomed, really tolerates being brushed & combed very well, even nails & ear drops! However, she does not like being bathed! Hey, you can't have it all, right?. LOL

| Thank you for all your replies. I really appreciate the input. I love this forum, I find so much info, and it helps since I do her grooming herself. Thank you! |
