| Bath; What to use and how often Hi Everbody! I'm new to yorkietalk.com and I'm also new to being a yorkie owner. I thought it woulb be a good idea to ask those of you who know alot more than me how bath should work. Amos loves his bath. I have been giving him a bath once a week. I comb him everyday. He is a party gene carrier but has a traditional colored coat. His hair is pretty coarse and thick I have yet been able to make it shine or feel very soft. Is it ok to bathe him once a week since we both enjoy it ? If not how often should I? He is an inside dog, but does go outside alot to play with our lab. He gets dirty and smelly pretty fast when he hangs with the big dog. Also what is a good product to use for his hair? I know it may never be as fine and silky as some, but right now it looks dry and sometimes a little frizzy. He is on really good dog food although he does eat a ton of my cat's food, they are both made by the same company and a good product. Thanks for any input you might have. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Hello and welcome to yorkie talk! I think my yorkie is quite similar to yours. She is 4 years old now. Her dam is a biewer (similar to parti) and sire is a yorkie. Morgan has traditional coloring except for some white on her chin and some toes which is barely noticeable. Anyway, her coat is never shiny either. Its thick and poofy and soft. No matter what i use or how often i bath/brush her, her coat will not shine (and believe me i've tried just about every product i could get my hands on). its just the way the coat is unfortunately. Morgan takes a shower with me every weekend. I am currently using espree shampoo on her. sometimes i condition but not always. doesn't really seem to have any effect on her coat, except make her head get greasier faster. When her coat is longer (1-3 inches) i make sure i brush her regularly with a metal comb and some type of leave in conditioner (CC, nature's specialty, ISB). Pin brushes don't really get through her coat thoroughly enough (down to the skin) and slickers can break the coat if used every day. i only use a small CC slicker on any mats i find which is rare if combed daily.
