Butt grooming
 
I was just wondering if someone could tell me how to groom around the butt so stuff doesn't get caught. Do you just cut out a little circle? Maybe a picture of a groomed butt would help. I told the groomer not to shave it because I read on here that looks weird but her hair is so long there stuff is getting caught. Thanks!

lol... i use a mini clipper and i DO shave the area around her bum.. VERY carefully (a few months ago i nicked her behind.. it was very sad). If i can get her to wake up i'll take a picture!

I don't shave it because you do risk a chance of irritation; I just keep it cut short. Every week when he gets his bath, I look him over to see what needs trimming. I hold his tail out of the way, and just trim the area under his tail very short, but not bald. He never gets any dingleberries. :D I doubt if it needs it more than once a month.

ok here is some yorkie butt :p I trim the "tan" areas so it isn't shaved ALL the way down but it is short.. and the area RIGHT around her bum i shave. I haven't done it in about a week so it's not freshly trimmed but it makes a HUGE difference, esp when she isn't feeling good and her poops arne' "clean"

Mine both get groomed at the groomers but I still take scissors and cut around their bums

Well this is getting very personal for the little furbutt! Oh sometimes its good to just check them afterwards and use a baby wipe or wet one on them to clean the area off. That way you get it before it dries. But I keep mine cut really short in that area as well. Just enough so the long hair isn't in the way.

I have a Wahl Peanut trimmer and I use the shortest comb attachment to buzz Remy's bum.:animal36

You guys seem to know exactly what you are doing. My question is, how do you get your baby to be still long enough to do that. I guess it takes constant grooming from the beginning. Since Canyon wont' be with me until he's 12 weeks, I hope I'm able to get him used to this kind of stuff. Any pointers?

treats, treats, and more treats :p lol and start when he is young... even if you aren't taking any furr off... go through the motions... ESPECIALLY with his nails!

Remy always wants to sit down or tuck her tail in real tight , so I start by putting her on the grooming table with the grooming noose on. Next I hold the trimmer in the right hand and with my left arm I reach under her belly just in front of her back legs ,bring my hand around and hold her tail up, now I can buzz away . My arm under her belly keeps her standing and my hand can hold her tail up, ( I have learned to become a bit of a contorsionist ! haha )

:D I found the perfect trimmer....Those little battery operated beard and mustache trimmers are perfect for trimming our fur babies!! :p

We use the mustache trimmers I just hold up the tail stub and shave. funny mine will stand dtill for a butt trim but fight me when I try to trim the ears. Maybe they dont like the sound of the trimmers. lol
