lol... i couldn't help but laugh when i saw this thread resurface! Layla hopes that by putting her dignity aside- she has helped other yorkies have clean behinds :)

Im terrible I shave them down like little baboons bare butts all the way cause I am too grossed out if they have dingleberries hanging

Don't they work great? I used my husband's mustache trimmer for years before I "fessed up". Needless to say he wasn't thrilled to know he was triming his mustache with the same trimmer I was using on Yorkie bums.

should you trim the butt fur til it's bare? or just cut it short enough? does it matter?

Most groomers shave the area because this is really fast, but if you've ever had a dog suffer from too close a shave; you will never do this again. There is intense itching, which causes licking and more irritation, and a nasty infection can set in. Probably 99% of time it's safe, but I just cut with a scissors, so that no razor buns will ever occur. Short hair looks better than bald in my opinion. Some kind of look like a little baboon butt, and shave way to much.

This thread has been very entertaining and I needed a good laugh. On ther serious side I was glad to see someone else uses scissors to trim the hair. I too have nicked one of my girls, felt horrible about it. I now only use the ball tipped scissors.

My Edie is acting very strangely since the mobile groomer came to our house on Saturday. I think that she got her butt shaved a bit too close. Poor thing. The skin isn't broken, but she insists on sitting all the time, and I think it must be very itchy. I think it will go away after a few days, but I am not going to put her through this again! She seems miserable! Is there anything I can put on it to make her feel better?

That's weird, my DIL uses a mobile groomer in the Phoenix area, and her dog, a Maltese, was shaved too closely. It turned into a very serious infection, and this is one of the reasons, I won't ever shave Joey. I don't know what the vet gave her. I think you might want to call, and see what the vet recommends. I know zinc oxide, the ingredient that is in diaper creams is really good for irritation, but I don't know about it's safety and if the dog can lick the area. I know she waited several days before she saw a vet, but the dog had licked himself so much and that it added to the problem. The cream is thicker than the ointment, and really is great, maybe with a diaper or pants so that the dog couldn't lick it off. I would do something ASAP.

It doesn't look bad, in fact, the skin looks normal, and she is not licking it. She just sits down a lot. I am going to get some aloe gel to put on it to cool it down a bit. And I'll give the vet a call right now.

If you could PM me the groomer's name, maybe it's the same one?

Just spoke with the vet. She recommended neosporin, so I'll get some on the way home. I went home at lunch to check on her. She's already acting a little more normal, but I hate seeing her this way.:(

The time that I nicked my girl I used neosporin on it and it healed in no time,
but as I said before I only use the ball tipped scissors now. Hope your babies feel better soon.

I just seen this today!! I can just see your DH face!! Mine would divorce me if I dont something like that and told him... But what he doesnt know wont hurt him!! LOL
