| ![]() Lily is 7 weeks old and I'd like to go ahead and start brushing and cleaning her. What kind of brush/other equipment do I need? I've seen slicker brushes and regular-looking hairbrushes. Any advice on shampoos or other products too?

| ![]() I dont recommend a slicker brush but get a pin brush with rounded tips. Also a steel comb. I love Coat Handlers shampoo and conditioners too. |

| ![]() My recommendations - Brush - Chris Christensen 20mm gold pin brush - a bit pricey but oh, so worth it! The dogs don't mind being brushed with this tender brush and it moves smoothly Pin Brushes Never brush a dry coat What I love to use when brushing and between baths - Buddy Splash from Cloud Star www.cloudstar.com -- this is a fantastic product with natural herbs & oils - smells fabulous. I think Petco started carrying this and at least one YTer has it on their site. Also, recommend Buddy Wash for your shampoo For great teeth Petzlife gel - you can just use a bit on your finger

| ![]() I use the CC fusion brush or the Madan brush. I use the CC buttercomb 00 for the face and use the #1 All system slicker brush on the feet. Spa Lavish facial scrub on the face more for the Malts than my Yorkie. Pantene Ice shampoo & conditioner. Smells great and leaves their hair wonderful.

| ![]() The Madan pin brush hands down! Much better than the Chris Christensen brushes and half as much. Chris Christensen Mark V slicker for feet and puppy cuts and the CC Buttercombs. I have the #000 for general use and the face comb. The face comb is a must have! |

I used a regular human hairbrush when Joey was a puppy because I was afraid the pin brushes might scratch him. You know the plastic kind that you use to blow dry the hair? It was a really small one. If you decide to grow the hair out, I think a pin brush is a good investment, as it doesn't pull and break hair. I use a small flea comb I bought at Wallmart for 4.99 on his face and mustache. I bought a special 26.00 comb for this, but I like the flea comb better. The teeth are very close together and sometimes I use a wider tooth comb for the first comb through. Remember after brushing, it's important to comb through, and get all the tangles out. Never wet a puppy until all the tangles are out. There are many types of shampoos that people recommend, I believe it's important that you use a dog and/or puppy shampoo because a dog's skin has a different PH than a human's skin. With conditioners it's different, some people do use a human conditioner, but whatever you decide it's important to use something as this helps reduce tangles. I buy a children's toothbrush and dog toothpaste. It's never too early to get them use to this, and Yorkies are known for having dental problem, so this should be an important part of their grooming process. I also use Petzlife tooth gel, but this is for tartar control, and probably not needed until puppy gets his permenant teeth. You should still brush. Nail clippers are also a good investment, and someday I hope I can scrounge up the nerve to use them.

| ![]() I have a wonderdful yorkie grooming DVD that will tell you the correct equipment to buy, where to buy it, and how to safely groom your yorkie at home. I show you a few different clips and head styles. The DVD is 2 hours and 2 min long, very detailed. All of the details are listed on my website, see my signature link. Several members here have bought my DVD and all have had a good response from it. I just broke the 2000 mark on how many dog grooming DVD's I have sold! I do give YT members a $10.00 off discount from my web site price. This offer expires June 1. If you want this DVD, just PM me. Sue & Cricket ![]() |

| ![]() Even if you do not want to cut your dogs hair, my grooming DVD can show you how to care for the coat at home. If you want to groom her yourself, I made a great yorkie grooming video: "How to Groom Your Pet Yorkie at Home". It is 2 hours, 2 minutes long. It explains in very detailed, simple to understand, common sense ways to care for your yorkies coat at home. It is made for the at home pet owner who knows nothing about grooming. It covers nail trimming, foot pad shaving, ear hair plucking and ear canal cleaning, how to trim out the eye corners between the eyes, how to clip the sanitary area, how to tip the ears. I show 3 different hair styles for the body (long to the floor "traditional" look, puppy cut, and schnauzer type "personality" clip) and a few different head styles. How to put up the top knot, and a newer style of topknot that will really stay in, and a rounded cute "teddybear" face and head style. I show how to empty the anal glands, and show the bathing and drying. I explain all about using the grooming equipment properly, what to buy, where the groomers shop for the lowest prices around. I stress common sense and safety. THIS IS NOT FOR SHOW DOGS OR PROFESSIONAL GROOMERS. I have been a professional groomer for 17+ years now. I show a few of the important things over and over so you can see from different angles. I use 3 different yorkie models. My DVD's have chapters so you can skip to what you need to see. I have them on my yorkie website (see signature below) and I will give Yorkie Talk members a $10.00 off discount for a limited time. The website price is $39.95 + $3.50 shipping. Members here will get it for a total of $33.45 which includes the shipping fee. I accept pay pal and US POST OFFICE money orders. Feel free to PM me if you are interested. The discount is for a LIMITED TIME ONLY as long as my current supply lasts. Sue& Cricket ![]() |
