No more grooming for Rex!!! 1 Attachment(s) Rex has been going to the same groomer every week for over a year. That is the only groomer he knows. However, this past Friday, the groomer called me and told me that she had cut Rex's neck and that he would need stitches. Of course I was frantic, drove to the groomer and took him immediately to the vet. He ended up getting 11 staples put in and will have to have them in for a little over 2 weeks. During this time, he cannot wear a harness, so he'll have to stay at home since we have a fenced in back yard. He usually goes with me to work during the week. But he always has on his harness and is on a leash when I take him out at work. She did pay for the vet visit, but he hasn't really been himself (he's getting better), and the injury is putting a burden on me. (Instead of just being able to take him with me when I leave, I have to be sure not to leave him at home too long. We live about 25 miles from where I work. And-- giving him his antibiotics is a fight!) He'll never go to another groomer again.... Should I just let it go at this point??? What would you all do? I attached a picture of his neck. |
 oh my gosh!!!! poor baby and poor mama.... I would be livid!!!! that looks like its more then a little cut! oh man Im sooooooooooooooooo sorry this happened to your baby! I dont think I would EVER take my baby back I would just do it myslef... Im going to do Gracies hair myself just because I dont want to leave her with anyone for a long period of time... thats good that she paid for the vet bill but I just wouldnt be able to go back... jmho I hope he heals FAST!!! so sorry mama |
I can understand why you would be angry. I would be too. With that being said; accidents happen. I'm sure she didn't do it on her purpose and feels bad enough. ETA: You should also be happy and grateful that she paid his vet bills. I'm sure most groomers wouldn't do that. |
Oh dear! I'm so sorry! I hope the poor baby feels better soon. That's so cool that Rex goes to work with you, I wish my babies could come to school with me... I wonder if you could fix some kind of harness like a belly band around just his tummy that you could attach a leash to take him out. What about a baby onsie with a ring sewn on the back...I'm not real crafty - I'll bet someone on yt has an idea. I hate for him to be away from his mommy when he feels badly. Best wishes for a speedie recovery! :) |
Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry this happened to Rex. Poor little guy will be scared to death to be groomed again. Hope he heals real soon. |
3 Attachment(s) Have no fear, any bath or cut he gets from now on will be done by mama!!! Aside from the fact that Saturday morning I woke up to a poopy crate (which he NEVER does), he's been doing pretty well with it. I think the meds from the vet visit had his stomach upset. I just have to keep both eyes on him at all times to make sure he doesn't scratch it. Below are a couple of regular pics of him. (before Friday!) |
BTW-- she said something about his neck being so small.... True enough, he is a 3 pounder... but his neck has ALWAYS been that small! |
Poor Rex! That could have been much worse on his neck like that. How in the world did she do that? Tell Rex that we hope he heals quickly and there are no problems. Geeezzzzz ... that a bigger cut than Toto's was when she was spade! Please give your little boy extra hugs and kisses for Toto and me. |
OMG! I would be so POed at that groomer. I feel so badly for you and your little Rex. I don't know that there is much more that can be done in regards to that groomer. I'm glad that she took the responsibility to pay for the vet bill. I guess the only other thing I would do is inform all of my friends about the experience and let them decide if they still want to take their dog to that groomer. I agree that someone on YT will come up with a creative way so that you can take him to work with you. I think that is very important especially during his recovery. Poor baby. Hugs to both of you.....:hug60::hug60: |
OMGoodness that looks terrible:( Poor baby..... Kodi had the same thing happen when he was a baby. she cut him on the neck and on the underside of his leg and tried to hide it..... He had 12 stiches! They did pay the bill also...He was a great dog never moved:( now to this day and he is 6 he shakes when I groom him.... I am so sorry this happened to your Rex.. |
omg i'd be furious, i'd be tempted to give her a haircut ! The poor baby, please give him lots of get well kisses from us ! |

Wow! I posted my last comment before I saw the pics of Rex. What a sweet puppy. He reminds me of my precious baby. I am so happy that he is healing. As far as the poop in the crate, I'm sure it is because he doesn't feel well. Oh, I just want to pick him up and cuddle him and tell him everything is going to be ok. He has a very good mom that loves him very much.:animal-pa |
Oh I am so sorry to hear that! Poor Rex! :( Wow that's one big accident that needed 11 staples  I dont blame you for not going there anymore. Thank god at least the groomer paid for it. Get well soon Rex. |
Oh my gosh! Who groomed him? You and I are neighbors (I live in Madison). I groom Jamie myself because there aren't any groomers in this area that'll let me and watch. |

Can you make him a harness out of thin elastic ? Anything to keep away from the staples, yet still let him go with you.... |
How terrible! As a groomer I know how unpredictable a dog can be, and I also know that accidents can happen...but with that being said... WTF?!? How could this have happened??? That is a HUGE GASH! not just a scratch or even a cut...my God, she could have cut his head off! I looked at the picture, and cannot imagine what tool she was using that did this terrible thing...my best guess is a dematting tool...but in that area it is highly unlikely. Most good groomers will pay any vet bill incurred as a result of a grooming "accident". At least in my area, that is what I was taught to do. (thank God I have never cut a pet in my care) KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! on wood. I am just so sorry that this has happened to you and your precious little one. My Cricket is small like that too, and I am just glad that I can do the job myself. PLEASE PM ME, I WANT TO SEND YOU SOMETHING. Sue & Cricket :aimeeyork |
Oh my gosh! Thats just crazy. The owner there is a Yorkie breeder. My Jamie's mom Macy is from her line. The lady who bought Macy got her on a spay and neuter contact but didn't get her spayed and Jamie was the result. I did a little snooping and found out the situation since they lady could never provide me with Jamie's papers. I called Cindy and she seemed nice enough and told me to bring Jamie in and she would trim him up. When I took him in for the trim, he had a fit and she said he was just spoiled. I figured it was probably more because he was just a baby (10 weeks old) and was scared. Anyway I wasn't crazy about them, so I learned to do it myself. I'm sure you'll do fine and I hope you baby feels better soon. Maybe we can get together sometime for a playdate. |
Poor baby - wishing him a quick recovery. |

Ohhhh, my gosh!! what the heck was she looking at?? was she not paying attention?? 11 staples that is a pretty biiiiggg cut!! :( very upsetting. Hope he recovers quickly. Very sad for you too. |
thats horrible.. i understand small nics every once in a while... accidents happen... but geeze! thats a HUGE gash! |
Before we log off for the evening, Rex and I want to thank everyone for the love, support, hugs, well wishes, and puppy kisses!!!! He's curled up in his new bed (since I trashed the poopy one)! YT is the best! |
I am so very sorry that this happened to your little Rex, and so glad that he is healing well. This is very upsetting because I have always groomed my dogs myself, and was gonna take them to a groomer for the first time this month. Your awful experience makes me think twice now. Sending good wishes to you and Rex.:aimeeyork |
Really, how did that happen? The gash is huge. She could have killed him. |

ok, I got that out of my system I'm soooooo sorry about Rex!!! The poor little guy! I feel so bad for him. I wish him a very quick recovery! I just hope he isn't terribly afraid whenever he gets groomed now. You'll be fine grooming him yourself. I've always done my yorkies myself... it's fun! |
I would be very upset too! As a groomer I don't see how you could cut a dog that deep. I know mistakes happen, but gosh! Luckily she paid for the vet bills, I'm not sure what else she can do. I would def. not be going back there and I don't blame you for wanting to groom Rex by yourself. Poor thing! |
Poor little Angel! Hope your baby gets better soon! I would be upset too but thank goodness he will be okay!:) |
Oh my gosh! What the heck was she useing? Poor baby. |
Oh, poor Rex! That looks terrible! I'm sorry that happened, and I hope for a speedy recovery for him. |
