Thanks for your responses, everyone! I'll definitely be doing the grooming myself at this point. No matter how uneven it might be from my own work, atleast it'll be better than this! Poor puppy.

As for Petco/Petsmart -- not all of their groomers are bad. There's a member here (or was, last time I logged in a few months back) who is a groomer at one of those places & she's supposed to be really good. Just to be fair.

Archie - I'm in Monmouth County, just a few minutes from the shore. We moved here just last June from Germany. I have to say, I do love it here. Everything you could possibly want is within an hour's drive (or less). Did you move just across the border into NY or all the way across the state?

Feeling your pain..just a few months ago that a groomer shaved Zoe to the skin...she is just now starting to get the hair back on her head and her body is just about a half an inch, if that! No more groomers for my two! I still say that groomers should be required to have a license just like hair dressers are. Shaving a dog is not an oops its a big "I have no clue what I am doing and need my @ss kicked"...sorry, I thought I had gotten over it.

I'm so sorry, that's awful! Unfortunatly, our groomer isn't taking any new clients right now, but she's awesome.
