Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I'm no expert so I hope not to alarm you for no reason, but my understanding is that black poop can be an indicator that blood is in the stool. I'd definitely check with the vet.

| My dog always has dark colored poop, I am assuming it is his diet that causes this. He is on the Eukanuba puppy food right now, I am going to switch him to yorkie mix as soon as he is 1 year old. |

| please check with the vet; a black tary stool can indicate possible digested blood in the stool. hopefully it's nothing.

| yes that's a problem; dont switch too many foods that can cause digestive problems my dog is a bit over 2 years; but in the begining i didnt know better so i switched many foods; and now she has ibd; very serious and expensive problems. she's on iams low residue wet food given by the vet and she has to be on prednisone; she was admitted many times to the hospital for vomiting blood. so careful with switching the food. stick with one. if he's eating the wet food; then feed that alone.

| I guess my question really is how often is considered switching too often? My dog was originally on the brand of food that was fed to him as a puppy, then at around 3 months ago we switched him to the Eukanuba puppy food. Since he is almost finished with this bag of food I was thinking of switching him to Wellness since it is considered a way better mix for him. I was going to let him finish out his puppy months with Wellness and then switch to the adult small breed Wellness. Should I just keep him on Eukanuba for now then or what?

| Ya the last transition I did was about 2 and a half weeks. I think I will do 2.5-3 weeks this time just to be safe.

| How do they know..did they do a hemoccult test? That's usually how blood in the stool is detected. It could very well be from the diet but I'd like them to be sure if it were me. JMO
