| I want to take my dog to Jamaica with me! Hi, My boyfriend lives in Jamaica. If indeed we do take our dating to the next step (engagement, marriage), I would love to live part time in Jamaica. Has anyone who has traveled to Jamaica taken their dogs with them? I went there last month but, I left her with my mom. We are planning another trip for late this year and I would love to take her. |

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | I would love to know the answer to this as well...my family owns two homes in Jamaica, I would love to take my yorkies down for a visit....hmmmm also would they allow pets at any of the resorts? There is no quarantine from Canada to the States...would that hold true to J.A. as well....I think that Jamaica is considered oversees..no? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

| I guess for now there will be no long term travel plans to Jamaica. I really hope that they do amend their laws and allow vaccinated pets come. I do know that they just got a new prime minister so maybe she will help bring the new changes. There is still time before I would want to move there. I just wouldn't be able to take her for visits until then. Thanks for the information. I do understand their reasons but, they are just so unaccommodating. And by Jamaica relying heavily on tourism, I am shocked. |

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Well according to those articles if you are not from the UK you cant bring your pets into Jamaica. The laws were written in 1948 and havent been updated...They state they are rabies free so if you try and bring your pet in they have the right to put the pet down Wow...just Wow!! That's insane thats all I can say. My mother is a Jamaican and has no pets, so she never knew this. (I asked her) Even those that are returning from a foreign country (living abroad) and returning home cant bring their pets back....how sad is this??

Anyway, no the laws have not been amended, I wound up boarding my little one and went by myself...I was not taking the risk of the Jamaican government putting my baby down, just because I am living in Canada....doesn't matter that my mother is Jamaican born, heck me too...they claim they do not have rabies there, so either insane quarantine or they put the pup down....sad really.
