| ![]() Make sure that the dog can travel with you in the cabin. Don't ever put him in the cargo area. I would never want my Yorkie to go there. Have heard so many stories about that. |

| ![]() I too have a yorkie and he flew with me in cabin to Doha, Qatar. Get a carrier thats WELL VENTILATED (it gets hot under those seats). We flew Delta and they require the international health certificate and we also had to secure an import permit so be sure to do that or else your yorkie could be refused entry or kept for observation. If your dog normally eats dry food pack a pouch of yummy treats or wet food incase he refuses the dry. Sometimes traveling can stress them and they wont eat... which can lead to big trouble in small dogs if their blood sugar falls too low. Pack puppy pads for the potty and use the handicap bathrooms when you're in the airport. We took about 10 minutes at each stop just to let Dash walk around and relieve himself because he refused to go in the bathroom during flight. Also, consider a belly band since its such a long flight. If you can walk your dog around in the airport if its not a direct flight. What ive found whiile being in the middle east with my dog is that most people havent seen a dog like him and are afraid. Most muslim's feel that dogs are unclean and they are frowned upon. There are no pet stores like what you're accustomed to in the states so ship at least 1 months worth when you come over. Petsmart will ship to APO addresses so that is helpful. It took 17 days to arrive here in Qatar from the date I ordered it. With all the protests going on there now Im not sure how this will affect your traveling or shipment of things to APO but I wish you and your yorkie a safe journey. You can usually find Pedigree dog food in the grocery stores but finding high quality, premium, or organic foods is impossible. (I feed Nutro Ultra and had to order it online... and had to make dog food for the lapse until it arrived) Aslo, finding puppy pards is very hard. (Ive ordered washable ones because the ones we found at Daisio are smaller and thinner than the brand we use in the states) Make sure you buy a carrier that is easily disguised as a purse or tote if you take your dog with you everywhere. They are not really allowed in any public places. I hope this helps... if you have more questions dont hesitate to ask. I had to figure this all out the hard way :-( |
