| We just flew Delta for the Holidays and my own experience is that they definitely did check at security. They looked at both the green tag attached to the carrier and asked for her receipt with our boarding passes at security. Maybe it's a hit or miss type of thing but the last thing I would want to be is held up at security, and having to go back to pay for her trip when trying to catch a flight. On another note, we were fortunate enough to get upgraded to first class and the flight attendants fell in love with Lucy and let her sit in my lap the entire flight!

| I just flew with northwest 2th of October. I was flying from florida to canada with stops in detroit and minneapolus so I went thru security many times. I needed a health cert. no one ever looked at it. At ticketing they look and your ticket will have a pet addition to it. once leaving ticketing you go thru security where the carrier is x-rayed and the dog/dogs must be removed and carried thru by you then they go in the carrier again. when boarding they are only concerned that you have the pet addition to the ticket and that the dogs are cute.......which I assume they will be They are too busy at the security to put an age on your dog and they wouldn't care there anyway . and once they are in the carriers no one can tell if they are 6 months or 6 years. Hope that helps Rhonda |

| Def get a health certificate. Even if they say its not needed, you never know. I have had people reserving my flight tell me mixed stories about flight procedures, then i call back and its another story. So I dont think they know what they are talking about all the time. Jet Blue flies pets for $50 each way I believe. I just flew with my little girl to Maine. It ridiculous how much the airlines are charging for them to be on board with us. Its not even like they are taking up extra space, because you have to use that as a your personal bag. I just stick my purse inside her carrier, since its 3x too big for her. If the airlines dont like us bringing pets then why do they allow it? |

| Delta specifically states (in writing) that no health certificate is needed for US flights UNLESS they are flying cargo. I just printed that and took it with me just in case. At $75 per visit for a health certificate each time we fly (which is often) I don't get her a health certificate for domestic travel.

| We are flying US Airways next week and they said no health certificate is needed. I'll just ask her vet to fax me a copy of her shot records.

| Your 2-in-1 dog bag plan sounds risky to me... I travel at least twice a year through major airports with my two Yorkies. I can tell you right away that very rarely has anyone checked to see how much my dogs weigh, if they have rabies shots/health paperwork and even if their carrier is airline approved. That being said, risking your trip by putting 2 dogs in 1 bag to save money sounds like a bad idea. You are testing the airline's patience should they decide to single you out. If you only have one bag, and they notice and make a big deal out of it, YOU WILL GET CHARGED when they force you to use one of their crates. Going rates for their own crates-- that's if they have one available-- can cost you $60-$100. That doesn't even start to cover if they refuse to let you board the flight or insist on putting your pet in cargo... I have always read that if you plan to fly with your pet, you must book early because rules state that there are only 2 pets allowed in the main cabin. And the rules also state one pet per person. If you should get on a flight where someone else has done everything correctly (they have one pet they booked in advance in an airline approved bag), you and your pets could be denied on the flight. I think you need to ask yourself what's important here: the safety of having your pets on the flight with you, or trying to skirt the rules so you can save some money in the hopes no one catches on. Although I hate paying the fees, I prefer the peace of mind. And if the attendants do catch you and make a big deal out of it, the rules will get tightenend & it will only make it harder for other pet owners to travel with their pets. I think you should do the right thing. Or stop complaining about the price and do something about changing it. Start a campaign to get the airlines to be more pet friendly and not so expensive--I'll be the first one on board to support your plan. In the meantime, my dogs will fly with me the right way.
