Please pray for my kitty I've had my kitty, Katie, since she was probably 8 weeks old. She's 7 and a half years now. Katie has been losing weight lately, but we had put her on a primary wet food diet and went from free feeding to twice daily feedings. The weight loss had seemed slow & gradual, but stepped up the last few weeks. I've also noticed her hiding more. She likes to hang out in this one cubby in my entertainment center. It's super warm from the cable box. Well, out of the blue, the dogs have been running up to it an barking at her like crazy for no apparent reason. They don't usually mess with her, so this was definitely odd behavior. Over the past week or two, she hasn't been running to eat at meal times like the other cats do. Now, I'm not home half the time she eats, so this wasn't initially a cause for concern. I did notice her coat didn't look quite right. It's not as lustrous as usual. She's due for her annual check up in a week or two so I figured I would just mention all this to the vet then since she still seemed fine when she was with me. Well, this morning she vomited and started crying and drooling heavily. She seemed dizzy and was holding her head tilted to the left. Her equilibrium was definitely off. I took her to the vet and they told me she cannot see. We got some of the prelim blood work back and her liver tests were WAY off. Among other things, the vet suspects fatty liver which apparently could be causing the neurological symptoms, as well. Or she may have a brain tumor or have had a stroke. The vet has ordered more tests and admitted her. She's a little dehyrdated, so they're pumping her full of fluids. Now we're just waiting. I've had her and her brother for almost eight years. She like one of my children. Please pray for my pretty little baby. |
I'm so sorry to hear this... I hope that she pulls through and she's back home soon. |
Oh no I am so sorry to hear about Katie. I have a brother kitties so I know how much she means to you. Good thoughts and blessings to Katie and you during this time. I hope they can find out and make her better. Big hugs |
sending prayers for your Katie. |
1 Attachment(s) Thank you for your good thoughts and prayers. I just spoke with the vet- no change yet, but he did say she seems fairly comfortable. She's not continuously meowing any longer at least. He gave her a shot for nausea and they'll start offering her food in another hour or so once that really kicks in. Here's a picture: Attachment 380410 |
shes a pretty girl...glad shes at least comfortable right now. |
Praying for your dear Katie. I have always had cats...and love them! I have one now...my Emma. I hope Katie gets well soon. |
Katie is truly lovely and I am praying for her. I had a friend with a cat that had so many bumpy and bad times in its life, even went 2 weeks on forcefeeding at about your cat's age, had 2 or 3 very bad kidney infections, surgery for more than one tumor - some really bad, bad times - and lived to be in her early 20's. Had all her teeth out at age 18! I hope your vet can get to the heart of her problem and find a good treatment to help her get better. Keep us updated. |
The vet just called. Her neurological symptoms are worsening and her temperature keeps dropping. He's going to do a chest x-ray to look for tumors and an ultrasound to take a look at her liver. The prognosis is not great. I don't even know what to do. He's calling me back in an hour or so to let me know the results of the x-rays & ultrasound. |
Praying for Katie... |

Well, the x-rays are fine, but her liver doesn't look good. They're sending me to a specialist hospital that's almost 45 minutes away. He did say the prognosis was not great, but was not ready to talk about letting her go just yet. I'm giving him 15 minutes to get her paperwork together, then we're leaving. |
Drive carefully....we are all here praying for your little Katie....we love our babies sooo mch, regardless of what they are....praying you kitten will get the treatment she needs for whatever her diagnosis is....I know NOTHING about cats but,you know they can do alot with bad livers in Yorkies...I will be praying for Katie.... |
prayers the specialist can help your katie...stay strong. |
Checking in about Katie. Hope the specialist can help her.good thoughts and blessings for Katie |
We just got home. Katie is staying overnight. The radiologist did another ultrasound of her liver- no obvious masses. We're now waiting for the specialists to arrive in the morning (neurologist & one other that escapes me). They'll consult with each other around 8am and I should hear from them sometime after 9. The general vet I did see did not think the prognosis was great, but then she didn't know what was causing the symptoms, either. I feel so bad for her brother, Sweetie. They're littermates and they've never really been separated before. I know he's looking for her. My son and I are just exhausted and mentally drained. I may call us both off sick tomorrow. Thank you again for your kind words and prayers. I'm praying for a miracle for my little girl. |
Sending lots of prayers.... |

No update yet... the internal medicine specialist is with her now, so I will hopefully receive a call shortly. |
i hope you get some positive news still praying for you kaite gina. |
Ugh, this is so frustrating! I've been waiting next to my phone all morning. Well, a voice message just popped up and my phone never even rang! When I called back, I was told the doctor had to step into an exam room and will call back in 10 minutes! I just want to know that she's comfortable and is going to be OK. |
i hate that!! hopefully you will hear real soon. |
OK, we have some positive news! When we first brought her in yesterday, she presented as demented and non responsive, however they say she is responsive this morning! They're still not sure if she can see yet, but her pupils are dialated. They're throwing around terms like hepatic encephalopathy (worsening of brain function that occurs when the liver is no longer able to remove toxic substances in the blood) and feline hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver). She is far from being out of the woods yet, but these issues should be treatable and, if this is the problem, completely curable. They are going to keep her over the weekend and insert a feeding tube through her nose. Thank you sooo much for the prayers & keep them coming! She may be my $10K kitty by the time we're done with this, but she is worth every penny! |
oh im so happy you have some sort of diagnosis and shes responding better. prayers and more prayers for your katie. |
