I was in Walmart one day 3 years ago, and a child was playing on the outside of a shopping cart. The cart flipped over on top of him, and I, not thinking, ran over and picked the cart up off of him. When I did, I felt the bones in my neck pop, then I got very dizzy and felt like an out-of-body sensation. I walked around a bit, but it didn't go away so I made my way to the service counter and had them call an ambulance. At the hospital, they did all the tests for stroke and old people's illnesses (as I must be old and can't remember all they did now, lol), basically ignoring that I knew it had something to do with the bones in my neck. At the store, my upper back and neck became very stiff, and I was afraid to try to move bc I thought something would break. Since then, the main complaint is that I feel like I've worn a tight fitting hat, and when you take it off, you still feel like it's still on your head. The new symptoms (first paragraph) started about a month or two ago, and seem to be intermittant and changing, so now I'm more worried.... hopefully tomorrow's MRI will give me some answers. Quote:

Kathy, you know you are Always in my Prayers.:) |
Wow, that really does sound like a cervical injury with nerve root involvement. Have they done an EMG to see about viability of nerve conduction? A bad sprain to the cervical spine can surely give some people misery for years until all is fully resolved. Those kinds of headaches often go with. Was your neck hyperextended during the lifting? |
I will be praying that all goes well |
you are in my prayers... sending hugs too |
Praying for you Kathy. Please keep us posted. |

I'm back(1:00)... Lol...I was 10 minutes late for my appointment:eek: so they made me wait 1.5 hours... After an hour I couldn't stand sitting in their chairs anymore, and said to DH, Come on, I'm going home! I had started getting numb in different areas on my face and head, like it was traveling around, and I felt pressure behind both eyes, and felt nauseous. I walked up to the receptionist and said I was sorry but I had to go. (Oh, Plus the whole time waiting, I kept hearing, 'Oh she was late...' Well yes I was freaking late, I can barely move!') I wake up different every day, and today was just not a real good day. She says, I'll have to give you a refund... I said Fine... I will reschedule, I just can't sit here, I can't get comfortable and the pressure in my head is increasing. She said it shouldn't be too much longer. So I asked her to find out exactly how much longer it would take... she called in the back and they said 15-25 minutes. I said I would try to wait, but if I got worse I was leaving. I thought I should just walk across the street to the ER, and get it done that way. Then finally they called my name. I follow the girl to the back, she directs me to a dressing room. I don't have to remove anything (knew that was coming so I wore an undershirt today) and then I hear again, 'That's the one that was late!' X 3 and no one was overly friendly, more like barely tolerating me bc I was LATE! Then she asks me something as I follow her down the hallway, I can't hear her bc my ears are clogged from the pressure in my head, so I ask her to repeat what she said. She stops abruptly and turns and rolls her eyes, and says, I asked, What is your name? I said my ears are clogged, I couldn't hear you, I'm sorry. My name is Kathy... Just know, I do respect others time and realize it is valueable, but know too that I do not have total control over everything in my life. I can't control daycare buses and drivers, or handicapped children with monster attitudes, or when DH can or cannot get off the toilet, or how I'm going to feel in the morning, or if I can even move about once I do get up! And if I had been on time and somone else was late, but their appt was before mine, I have no problem letting them go in front of me. I've let people get in line in front of me at the grocery store, even pitched in for their groceries when they've come up a few dollars short. Anyway, the MRI tech was nice and we did get it done. I just hope they don't 'forget' to give the results to my doctor bc I was having a not so great day! Sorry for the rant.... I've learned my lesson: If I'm going to be late, call and cancel the appt!:D |
Kathy, I am just seeing this. What a terrible experience. I am sorry to hear that you were treated so poorly. I clerked in a hospital when I was in school and while it is a very stressful environment to work in, I always reminded myself that it is more stressful to be a patient -- and that I should treat people the way I would want to be treated, or have my family members treated. Sending prayers for you to feel better and for your MRI to return good news. |
Sounds like you had a horrible day. I'm sorry. I hope your test comes back A-ok and you are able to get some relief and start feeling better real soon. :) |
Kathy, you NEED to call the hospital & make a complaint about this. Sometimes being late is an inconvenience BUT they never wait long before they take the next patient on the schedule so they for the most part stay on schedule, and that's NO excuse for them to be rude to you & treat you like a second class citizen. Please do not let this go as there will be others who feel as horrible as you today & they also do not deserve to be treated so badly. Those rude people need to realize that @ some point in their lives, it could very well be them in your shoes or worse. |
