| Valley Fever? We are taking Bobo to Tucson with us later this month, and will be staying til March. Should I be worried about Valley Fever? I had never heard of it until I was checking AZ vet sites online. It sounds pretty serious. |

| Valley Fever does happen here in AZ, but not as frequently as you might think. In 14 years here, I have had only one case.(maybe I am just lucky?) People as well as dogs can get this. It is air-borne and comes out of the soil and dogs that are on dirt or close to the ground are more likely affected. I have a friend that also has a Yorkie that got it. It does make them pretty sick and they loose weight and loose their appetite. Our dogs were on medication for about 1 year until they finally got better. We both live in the Phoenix area and live about 25 miles apart. Also, where there is lots of construction(dirt moving, etc)it gets into the air. My friends husband got it in his teens and had to take it easy for about a year. He coulnt excerise or do all the teenage stuff until he got well. This was back in the 60's and ther is better medicine now. I dont know the incidence rate in the Tucson area as its about 150 miles south of Phoenix. Maybe ask a vet in the area you are going to.

| Valley Fever That is good advice. I will call a vet in the area before we go, and I doubt the vet here in MA would know much about it. We are right in the foothills area of Tucson, so it is lots of desert combined with some new construction --- both of which are apparently contributors. Whew. So much to learn. |
