| A Yorkie on the FRONT page of today's newspaper! As most of you know, I write/edit for our local newspaper here in Johnson City - The Johnson City Press. Today, Kristen, a coworker of mine was the reporter covering a fun event, the "Paws for a Cause" lakeside doggie festival-fundraiser. They are raising money to build a dog park here in Johnson City...actually, the chosen site is right around the corner from my house! I'm excited! However, Dave the photographer didn't choose the cute photo that he took of me, my husband Eli, and Sully ....But he still choose a very cute picture of a yorkie for the front page! I was proud that our favorite breed was represented...even if it wasn't Sully. (I am going to fuss at him for not putting Sully in the paper, haha! When Eli graduated from ETSU, you betcha I put my 2 cents in and got him on front page of Sunday's paper! LOL.) Feel free to read the story, but if not, scroll to the bottom of this post for the pictures of the front page. P.S. The photo caption says "Christy Bunn and Macy" - are you guys on this forum? (Wouldn't THAT be neat?) --------------------------------------------- Gathering of canines raises funds for new city dog park By Kristen Swing Press Staff Writer kswing@johnsoncitypress.com From the teeny-tiny to the larger-than-life, dogs of every shape, size and color made their way to Winged Deer Park Friday evening to take part in the Paws for a Cause Lakeside Festival. The festival, hosted by Friends of Willow Springs Dog Park, Journey’s End No Kill Animal Society and the Johnson City Parks and Recreation Department, offered pets and their owners the chance to partake in anything from microchipping and pet tattooing to pet pampering and pool partying. While the festival was an evening full of socializing for many area dogs, its main goal was to raise funds for the ultimate dog dream: a dog park. Much of the funds made from Friday’s festival will go toward the goal of opening the Willow Springs Dog Park, a 1.6 acre fenced-in area on Huffine Road where dogs would be allowed to run around and play together without the confines of leashes. Many pet owners at Winged Deer Park on Friday were excited at the prospect of a dog park. “I just think it would be a great place to let your dog exercise, especially if you don’t have a fenced-in yard,” said Lauren Roy, Johnson City, who brought her dog Sugar out to enjoy the festival activities. “It’s much-needed.” For Britni Benton, Bristol, the dog park would be an ideal place to bring her two Labradors, Cooper and Calli. “There’s just not any places you can have a dog and not have them on leashes,” she said. “They like seeing other dogs and meeting friends.” That’s just what Madison and Murphy, two Saint Bernards at Friday’s event, were trying to do, but with their larger-than-life stature, it wasn’t always easy. However, owner Cathy Casey, Bristol, said their size, although overwhelming to some other dogs, is about the only intimidating thing about them. “They’re just big, cuddly, teddy bears,” Casey said. “You couldn’t ask for better dogs — you just have to get past the slobber.” For more information on how to become involved with the Willow Springs Dog Park project, e-mail makwdpark@johnsoncitytn.org or call 283-5827.

| That's awesome! Great front cover Yorkie pic, even if it wasn't Sully! PS. I think if you would have posted in General (instead of Southeast), you'd have gotten a few more replies. |
