Anyone from Americus or Albany Ga area?? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

My husband is going to an interview with Cooperlighting in Americus this week and if all goes well, we may be moving down there. Just wondering what anyone thinks is a good area to move and not be too far from work for him, but good for a family with a small child and another on the way. Thanks to anyone in advance!

I have an uncle that lives in Albany, but I'm not real familiar with the area.

I live in Rome which is in the northwest corner of Georgia. I just checked with http://local.live.com/ in right off of 175 in South Georgia. Perry is just north of Albany and is a VERY nice little town. We go there to horse events several times a year.

Americus is a beautiful old town...very historic and quaint. Georgia Southwestern college is there. Lots of old plantation homes and in my opinion and nice place to live if you don't want the hustle and bustle of city life. There are things to do though. Albany has grown...to me it's a mid size town. I know people that live there, they seem happy. I would prefer Americus probably. People in Georgia don't say Albany as you would expect...it's "All Beeny" like two words. There is an Army post in Albany, so to me it's a typical GI town, like I live in now.

Perry is about 45 minutes from Albany...it's in the same county as my hometown, Warner Robins...I live in NC now, but I'm in Ga with my dad at the moment...both sides of my family have DEEP roots in Georgia. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions...if I don't know, I'm sure my dad does!

Thanks for all your replies. He heard from the job yesterday and they made him an offer and he is taking it. His first day down there is Feb 1st.

Well, welcome to Georgia! I live in Cumming, GA. We just passed through your new town on Saturday. It is very pretty - rolling hills and a lot of open land. I loved it! Good luck on the move and house hunting.

Hello. I am from Albany Ga. And yes we pronounce it "ALL-BEENY"

. Albany is a small city about an hour from Tallahassee FL. It is a wonderful place to raise kids. I was born and raised here. It is actually about 40 minutes away from Americus. Compared to Americus...Albany is the city. If you want to know more you can PM me.
