Traveling to NC with 2 yorkies

We'll be taking a road trip to the Outer Banks, NC in late summer with our 2 yorkies. Does anyone know if any areas are more "dog friendly" than others as far as activities, dining out, etc? Thanks!

Oh you are going to love it there. I am not sure about the areas that are dog friendly. But here is a site that can gives you some places. There is also two great dog places one in duck and the other I think it is kitty kawk for some nice treats.

Places to take your pup


The Beach
My favorite place to run along the shoreline as my paws sink into the sand. Remember all of the beaches have special restrictions. Please view the leash laws for the town you are staying in and read Teddy’s Safety Tips before making your first visit.

The Sound
Another great place to play in the water without the waves. Watch for the oyster shells though because there can be plenty of them in the shallow water. Stay away from the tall reeds for your own protection. Once again leash laws do apply. End your day splashing in the sound as the sun sets to the west.

Kitty Hawk Park “The Dog Park”
Not only a “dog park” but a skate park too. There is no charge for the park but dog owners need to fill out a registration form and provide a current rabies vaccination record for each dog using the park. This assures a tag for your dog and a code to open the gate into the dog park. Kitty Hawk, MP 4.

Hayman Park
This place is great for me and the kids. This park has a picnic area, shade trees, an open area to run and a playground too. There is a public sound access at the end of the street. Kill Devil Hills, MP 5.5.

Wright Brothers National Memorial
Pets are allowed in the park however, they are not permitted inside of the buildings. All pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet in length. Please remember if we will be walking on the asphalt, it will be sensitive on my pads in the summer heat. Kill Devil Hills, MP 8.

Jockey’s Ridge State Park
Pets are allowed in the park however, they are not permitted inside of the buildings. All pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet in length. Most of our walk will be on the sand and it is hot, hot, hot on my pads. Please remember to bring along some lotion for me and sunscreen for you. Nags Head, MP 12.

Roanoke Island Festival Park
Pets must be on leash. We are allowed in the parking area, along the board walk and Pavilion lawn. Pets are not allowed during public events due to large crowds and loudness of fireworks nor are they allowed into any attraction venues. So if you are planning to go to a special event here, you may want to hire me a sitter. Manteo Waterfront.

Currituck Heritage Park in Corolla
A lot of acreage here to explore. Have a picnic on the lawn, stroll across the wooden bridge. Get your paws wet along the pond and sound. Pets must be on a leash at all times. Your owners will like it too because there are great historical landmarks to see, however pets are not allowed inside these buildings. Corolla, CC11.
