Well..I guess I am an inbetweenie!! Sometimes I see the same posts, but I usually look at the new posts to see whats what. If I post, I try to search and make sure it isn't here, but sometimes they are worded different than what I put...same topic...different things. I know when I was a newbie...I didn't think to search b/f I posted a new thread. Oh well!! YORKIETALK RULES!!!!!!! |

I'm guilty of not using the search function a couple of times. But sometimes it's just nice to have your scenario answered instead of "google searching" of sorts through YT. So... sorry if I'm contributing to people getting "burnt out." |
What I do:) when I first log on I always try to look at the newbies. And welcome them. Even if I have no advice. I also look for post that no one has posted to or few have and see if I can help. If I can't help I'll boost them back to the top to try to get them the help they need. I know that some threads get lost when there are so many to read. So I try to look for the ones that may have been overlooked :) I don't get burned out Yet;) I have only been here sence May butI have to say that if I can't get on for a few days I go crazy I Love YT and don't think I could get Bored with it here ever. |
I haven;t been here very long but I wouldn't get sick of answering questions over and over...I mean... isn't that what the site is here for? to ask questions? |

Carol Jean I think it time for you to take a rest if that is the way your feeling and you have nothing left to give. Take a rest and come back to post when your feeling better. Thank you for all you have given. |
We do encourage members to search for topics before posting because they may be able to find the answer they were looking for immediately without waiting for someone to reply. The nature of forums is that the same topics and questions will come up, which is fine by us. Sometimes members may not be able to find the answer they were looking for, or perhaps were looking for something more in-depth in regards to a topic, and thus need to post a new thread. If you do not feel like responding to a topic you have seen many times, feel free to skip over it. We do welcome new threads and new discussion here at YorkieTalk, even if the topic has been discussed before. We do ask that threads are titled appropriately, so members can easily choose which topics they wish to read. For those that have been on YT for a while, challenge yourself to create a new thread every day with a new topic! :) |
Personally I don't mind. If I don't like a topic or I think it's been 'done' before then I move one. I do do a search first but I don't always find what I am looking for in it. You got to remember that there are only so many things you can discuss about your dog before you start to cover the same issues, and although some posts are repetitive, I find that someone always brings something new into it that wasn't there before, probably from a newbie. So thanks... and keep 'em coming. |
The only problem with using the search feature and not posting their question is that the member will not get the emotional support they may need with their concern. Lots of times I post concerns in hopes someone will help me feel better about my baby.... |
I don't post much, I read mostly. I learn something new in old and new and repeated posts. I don't always have time to read them all but the ones I do read I usually learn something. I never get tired of talking or reading about yorkies but my friends are not as understanding about the breed. They don't want to hear about yorkies so I come here to get my yorkie fix. The only things I don't like is the RIPS because I will sit here and cry at work reading it and people that post about their sick yorkies for the first time and get tons of great advice to never be heard from again. I want to know the outcome . |
I dont answer near as much as I should. Even if its just a "Hi there! Glad to see you here!" Yorkie talk is much bigger then when I first joined. I couldnt kept up with everything if I tried now. Alot of times Im just tired and enjoy just reading. If Im motivated by a thread I definitely will post if I feel I could add something of value to it.......that is if I see it!.......lol When I first came here as a newbie, I had never posted on any kind of forum.............so search, resized attachments, even smileys were a challenge to me. If your used to all the options its one thing, but if your not..........its like being in kindergarden again............sometimes overwhelming! I think some questions are asked again because people simply dont know how to search...........and searching is not always so easy.........spelling and wording has to be correct....etc. I havent found threads I wanted to see before because of missspellings or I didnt search correctly. Sometimes people just want support or companionship........and its great they can find it here. Lots of great people here, who can discuss not only their dogs, but other things that are important to them here and someone cares. |
i posted this thread to help our newbies i hope it helps all of you who are burned out. :D I love it here and i just think we are all excited about getting a new baby we just ask without searching anyway here is the thread http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...578#post737578 |
Well, I know when I was a newbie and first discovered YT, I was oblivious to the "Search" feature. I am positive that the questions I first posted had been answered hundreds of times. However, I am very grateful to those who answered my stupid threads. Otherwise, I would be up the creek without a paddle! :p I did eventually recognize the "Search" feature and really have enjoyed using it to find great info. But you can't hold it agianst the newbies. I am sure they are just like I was and don't know any better. Since YT has become somewhat redundant for me, I've joined www.4womentalk.com. There's lots of fun stuff going on there with almost every member coming from YT! If you are burnt out, you should definately come check 4WT out!!!!!   |
Thanks to all of you for your responses to my question. Some of us obviously have more time to be on YT than others. A couple of you have many many many thousands of posts (11 or 12 thousand) - and are posting some 20+ posts a day. (I'm afraid I wouldn't get much else done if I were posting 20 or 30 posts a day and reading everything else.) But - then, this is because I have three jobs and a lot of other hobbies - none of which I have enough time for. (And a lot of you don't work - that would make a big difference also!!!!) Nevertheless - don't think for a minute that I don't check in on YT almost daily - and I still read a lot of posts and answer a lot too. Plus - I have always been pretty good about starting new threads...and, I'm sure that I will continue to do this. Thanks again for all your replies. Carol Jean |
Hey there - Now I HAVE to say something - I tried to understand the 1st post about newbies and you being burned out - but now people with big post counts are total losers with no life ? Hmmm....I want to say this if only for my own peace of mind - while i used to post often - I actually don't post 20 a day....and frankly - I DO stay busy away from my computer. With my husband sick - it's up to me to do EVERYTHING now with no help from anyone - I also work from my home but am not as busy as I used to be. So I do make time to help newbies with pictures etc - but I guess it's all a matter of speed - I can get on here -read and post a few times.... make an avatar ...and be done in 1/2 hour. I never PLANNED to be online so much and would much rather be earning money - but to me this is an escape....but believe me - I'd WAY rather be doing something else. I can honestly say that even if I worked away from home full time - I'd still manage to post and read just like I do now - I just wouldn't do the extras ...i.e. making Avatars and helping people size pics - but just because someone is online alot - doesn't mean they have absolutely nothing else going on in their life. It could be they have TOO MUCH going on in their life you know ??? |
