| Postings. As of late I am finding a lot of crap coming on YT. I think some safe guards can be improved to make this the place it was intended to be. For one I feel that anyone wanting to post a dog or pup for sale should have to be an active member for a minimum of three months AND they should have to also be a donating member. Furthermore they should have to provide references of past buyers and USDA Licensed Kennel Owners should not be allowed to solicit their pups here. These are puppy mills that sell to petstores and that should not be allowed her. Another safe guard should be that members when registering should have to provided a verifiable email address, telephone number as well as home address. I think for one this will prevent the fishing that seems to be ongoing as of late AND more importantly it will HELP dogs that are clearly being neglected. If a poster comes on here that openly admits his dog may be dying, peeing blood, and living outside THAT IS NEGLECT and it is OUR JOB EVERYONE'S JOB to help that dog. If the poster refuses help then the proper authorities should be contacted. If Yorkie Talk has this personal information in their files THEN THEY can and SHOULD CONTACT the proper authorities by forwarding them the thread as well as the OP's name and address. If this were a child involved it would be called child abuse. Since animals do not have the same rights it's OUR JOB to step up and fight for that dog. If we choose not to do this then then all we are are hypocrites. This is a couple of suggestions that I feel will make a big difference and if members knew these were in check it would prevent members from getting aggrevated when idiots post about situations as described above. Moderators are quick to delete posts when someone says something less then nice to these idiots doing the neglecting yet there is no consequence for the poster clearly abusing their dog/s. Elaine |

| I would have to agree with you on a lot of your points. I thought that you had to be a donating member in order to sell on YT. I am not sure though as to being the ones to responsible for others perceived neglect of their animals. Not trying to start an argument, just trying to point out that this is a public forum and anyone can visit as well as subscribe too. There are many people in this world that have different opinions on how their dog should be cared for...others may not agree with it but isn't that the same with children? Who is to say that one person takes care of their animal better another. I totally agree that if the animal is bleeding or throwing up there is really one thing to do, to seek medical advice, but at the same time, who are we too judge someone else? There is no right or wrong. I, for one, would call the vet, and I have, at something I thought was going on with my babies. Some would call that over protective, some would say good for me. All that we can do is offer OR not offer our opinions. I have said and will continue to say that there are people out there that should not have kids...be it skin or fur.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I totally feel Elaine. Believe me I have watched so much crap lately that it's frustrating and seemingly the only posts removed are the ones that make sense and speak truthfully. I totally understand now why so many people have left. I know that this is a public forum and we can't monitor what goes on in people's personal lives but I think a lot of the things that are being mentioned about: 1) breeders selling practice 2) censure of posts/opinions when they are not attacking a person are right on the money. More and more I too find myself getting frustrated and just staying off of YT... a place where I have made so many friends and enjoy being. Time and time again people come on here looking for help and when the information is given they refuse to listen to it and continue to stir the pot. That thread should be locked instead of having the long standing members posts removed, having them suspended or banned. It seems like the long standing members have no place when they have earned it along with their post count and tenure.

Administrator | Thank you for your feedback. We do not expect everyone that joins to donate, in fact, the majority of members of YorkieTalk may never donate to the site, which is perfectly fine by us. It does not matter to us whether a member donates or not as we're here to try and help all Yorkies and Yorkie owners, and thus that is the reason we do not charge a fee for members to join and we do not plan on changing that. All members who join are required to verify their email address. We do not believe it is reasonable to ask a member for their phone number or address. We would not want to join ANY site or community that would require such information, nor would many other people. We have had a long-standing policy here at YorkieTalk regarding Yorkies for sale. We do our best to ask as much information as possible and require Yorkies to be at least ten weeks of age (unless they are a YorkieTalk Featured Breeder). We believe it is up to members to do their due diligence and personally ask for references as well as visit the breeder before purchasing their Yorkie. We stress this in many areas of YorkieTalk, that potential parents should visit the breeder first. We do not allow personal attacks, which is the reason many posts are deleted. This does not create a positive atmosphere and does not ever help any situation. Members are free to ignore or not read threads which they may not agree with or by members they do not get along with. Donating Members or long-time members of YorkieTalk are still bound to the YorkieTalk Rules & Regulations, which explicitly state no personal attacks. It is a clear and simple rule. Posts which are informative and helpful and do not include personal attacks are NEVER DELETED here. Admins and moderators have a role to make sure threads stay on topic and do not get into attacks. Members get suspended because of personal attacks, which are simply not allowed here. YorkieTalk's job is not to be the police of everyone and watch over everyone's back. We are here to provide a community for members to help one another and provide support. We are always disappointed when members (longtime or new) are unhappy about our community. Members may participate or not participate on YorkieTalk on their own free will, no one is forcing anyone to be here. The admins and moderators of YorkieTalk do our best to make this a friendly, helpful, and useful community for everyone. Last edited by admin; 09-03-2008 at 09:17 AM. |
