As with any breeder you need to do your research. YT has become a great tool for helping others find reputable breeders. But I do agree with more guidelines, but I think it may be tricky to do. |
Like I said get rid of it and go back to the old forsale forum, that way there are no expections for new people that don't know anyone |

I guess I have the most problem with the featured section. It gives the impression these breeders are recommended by YT and above questioning by members. Anyone can make a pretty webpage and appear anyway you like. Unless there is someone from YT admin. who truly inspects each breeder there they should be open to scrutiny by all they are advertising to. Any breeder who sells pups to the public should have to answer to the public. Especially if they are advertising on a discussion board. Then if someone wants to buy from them they at least have the benefit of seeing the discussion and making a better informed decision. |

I belong to a Maltese forum and sales of live animals are not permitted. When you remove that element from a forum, it makes it much easier to educate potential puppy buyers on how to find a reputable breeder. It doesn't stop sales behind the scenes. Members often contact a breeder who is member when they are looking for a puppy because they have gotten to know them through their posts. This way the sales are kept private between two people with no implied endorsement from the forum. |
This is a thread that shows that people think featured breeders are recommended by YT And I can see how someone would think that. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=109807 Deana Prestigeous |

I just now read through that entire mess and I can totally see what you're saying Deana. Now I went through the featured breeders section and see that it YT itself made a mistake in saying Quote:

Thank you for your feedback. We periodically review the For Sale forum rules. The YT Featured Breeders are not in any way recommended by YorkieTalk, it was created because there were professional breeders that wanted to differentiate themselves from the Yorkies for Sale forum, which was getting crowded. The only fee is for listing Yorkies in the Featured forum and YT makes no commissions nor do we collect any money when Yorkies are sold. We believe a breeder may price their Yorkies at any price they wish, and buyers may choose to buy or not buy at that set price. We are not saying any Yorkie is worth more than any other Yorkie, but there is a discrepancy in Yorkie puppy prices from one state to another, as we have seen puppies as little as $300 or as high as $5000. All potential buyers should do their homework and ask questions before purchasing any pet. The reason that only serious questions may be asked and only positive comments may be made is because there were other breeders who only posted to harass YT Featured Breeders, which is unfair. We believe the Yorkie For Sale forums are necessary and helpful, as many Yorkies have found wonderful homes through our For Sale forums. The higher standard required of Featured Breeders are that they are required to offer a one-year health guarantee, contracts must be openly viewable, and they must have experience breeding Yorkies. This is what the YorkieTalk team decided on after consulting with YorkieTalk members on what should be required for a Featured YorkieTalk Breeder. It is simply impossible for us to verify breeding stock, dam/sires of the Yorkie puppies, or other additional information from breeders. |
