For sale threads I truly believe that for the betterment of YT, that we need to put some sort of restrictions on for sale and Featured breeder sales here. I personally believe that one should contribute more to this site than just their for sale threads or a donation. I'll just be simple and say that we should atleast have a post count restriction in place before being able to place anything for sale here (puppies or anything else). |

I thought there was a restriction? That you have to be a donating member? |

Right On, Steph!!  |
I agree! How about a post count AND a minimum time that they've been a member... because some can come on here and post 100 in a few days. :p |
I'm not sure how I feel about it. I sort of feel like anyone purchasing a puppy should use their head and gut feeling when choosing a breeder. I'm not even sure if this is already located somewhere, but maybe there could be a sticky thread in both puppies for sale forums that gives tips on how to choose a good breeder, so that YT members looking for puppies can be well informed? |
Yes, people need to use their heads when choosing a breeder. There are tips in the regular Yorkies For Sale, not the Featured Breeders section. Let's face it... not everybody does the correct research prior to buying a puppy. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people selling puppies that are looking for just those people. Plus, not all people read those tips. They are looking for a cute puppy and that's about it. And yes, I also agree that there should not only be a post limit, but a time limit as well. |
I would like to see more restrictions for the featured breeder sections besides donating $50 and having a website. A "featured" breeder should be where people can look for the best of the best on this site. I would like see featured breeders contribute to this forum besides placing their for sale ads. I would also like to see featured breeders following the ethical guidlines set by the YTCA. Those ethical guidelines are set in place for the health and safety of the breed we all love so much. |

How would it be determined if a breeder were following the YTCA guidelines and code of ethics, though? I think it's a fabulous idea if it's doable. I see so many replies to newbies looking for their first Yorkies that direct them to the breeders section saying it's safer than looking for a puppy on the internet. It isn't safer if nothing is known about these breeders. It can give a newbie a false sense of security by giving the impression that the featured breeders have been endorsed by YT. |

I am fairly new here, so this is just my two cents. I totally agree with not really knowing someone. I guess what I am trying to say is, If I were looking for a Yorkie on here, I would be looking for first, how long they have been on here, how many posts, and other peoples comments on things they have posted. I would not buy a Yorkie from someone that has been on here a month. I don't think that really gives you enough time to know what that person is like, how they care for their animals, what type of breeder they are, etc. Just my opinion.......... By the way, I just love this site. Even someone like me, in the over 50 group can learn something new. Darlene :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa |

I completely agree with you both! I think that the title "Featured Breeder" itself should indicate those who have 'proven themselves' and who meet a strict criteria, striving to be the best of the best--breeders who are held to higher standards. I think it is a GREAT idea, but I think that if the requirements were a bit stricter, maybe more people would see it as an honor and make it their goal to prove that they are 'that good.':) |
I believe the area being labeled as a featured breeder, is confusing... "featured" meaning "given prominence" I know many that have thought the breeder had the privilege of posting in that section and are "being held to a higher standard" when simply they pay to post their litters. |

I think if we all put our heads together, we can come up with a set of rules. $50.00 and website and breeding for a year doesn't cut it. Also, in the rules section it states no one should post unless seriously considering purchasing, is a cop out....totally unfair to those looking for a yorkie. |

So if I were new to YT I could be posting in the featured breeders section already and no one would know that I have not been breeding for over a year. I think a minimum of one year requirement should apply. |

I think let's leave the YTCA out of this, not everyone agrees with the YTCA's guidlines. A lot of show breeders don't even agree with the YTCA. |

The one year breeder experience limit was set by admin, not my suggestion. |

Although in a way, I find it odd that it's suggested to throw out the opinions of the parent club--those who set the standards, wrote the book and are the experts. I would think their opinions and guidelines would be the MOST important for breeders striving for excellence. :( Although...I do understand how it affects YOUR specific program differently Jeanie. |
