| Help! Gizmo ate Chocolate and is vomiting a lot! Hi, I am writing from Japan and all the vet clinics are closed. I'm not sure exactly how much chocolate he managed to eat, but he has thrown up about 7 times now. He did this about 6 months ago, where he would not stop throwing up and I took him to the vet, where they gave him an IV and some medicine. That is not an option for us tonight, and I was wondering if you had any suggestions. I'm worried about my little guy. I gave him some karo syrop and water through a syringe, but I couldn't get him to drink very much of it. Please Help! Valerie |

| Thanks for responding. Gizmo ate the chocolate about four hours ago. I do have hydrogen peroxide. He's thrown up two more times. |

| What is the hydrogen peroxide for? The bottle says for external use only. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Well if it has been 4 hours It's too late to use it. If he ever eats chocolate again you can give him a 1/2 teaspoon of it to induce vomitting thats what my vet had me do but has to be done before the chocolate is digested Id guess the first half hour to hour. If he has been vommiting sounds like he has pretty much cleared his stomach anyway. Is he acting okay besides the vommiting? I would continue to force water in him for dehydration. When does the vet open?

| The vet opens in a little over 8 hours, I think. I made him some chicken broth, but he only drank a little bit. He keeps dry heaving and vomiting. He wants to be held and he is whining. Usually he's really hyper. I think he may have had enough to kill him. I tried calling the animal poison control center, but it wouldn't go through because I'm out of the area. I guess they are only allowed to help people living in the US. Usually he loves chicken broth, but he wouldn't drink much. I guess I will just stay up an watch him a little longer. It's late and I have to go to work in the morning. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks, Val and Gizmo |

| Thanks! I'm going to bed now. I'll take Gizmo to the vet in the morning if he is still sick. He is only throwing up about every half our now, so that's a little better. Thanks again everyone. |

| We were stationed in Japan at Yokota and our vet while not open at night did have an emergency number. Most off base vets also have emergency care. We used them several times and even though you can't understand them and they can't understand you they always seemed to manage to fix the problem. Chocolate can kill your dog and if you can get him seen you really should try. Kim
