He is doing pretty well so far. Still no epiosdes or seizures - YEA!!!! THANK YOU for asking.

I do have to say it makes him a little groggy in the day time and than he has been getting up and barking and pacing around the house at night - ugh! I hope he starts to adjust to it soon because I worry about him and than get no sleep when he does that.

We go back to vet in about 1 week to re-evaluate and try to dial down his dosage. I am looking forward to lowering the dosage because of the side effects.

I took it on and off for years for Crohn's Disease, and the side effects can be pretty rough. Of course, his dosage is going to be so small and dogs react differently. You know it has actually made him tiered - not hyper BUT than he gets up in the middle of the night and wants to bark at everything????? Not sure if that is a side effect of this medicine or not but I am hoping he adjusts to it soon. We are meeting with the Vet next week to eeevaluate and try to dial down the dosage. He is on one whole pill a day right now.

Hey, I was talking to a friend today about Prednisone...She has 2 of her skin kids on it for asthma. She said it makes one of her boys hyper and the other groggy. But the funny thing is the one that gets groggy has ADHD, so he's normally very hyper...isn't that strange??? I don't know if it would be the same with dogs, but I did think it was an interesting observation.
I sure hope Murphy's dose reduction will lessen the side effects...so you can all get some much needed sleep!!!

I missed the thread on Murphy. Thank you for posting the video which is so very helpful to others. He seems more comfortable on the little rug when he is having his seizure, doesn't he? Poor little buddy and glad to see that Wemple2 and TinksMom both responded.

No I have not had him bile acid tested because he shows no signs of needing to have that done. The Vet and I did speak about that a little and I trust he knows it is not that or that we need to test for it. He has been doing very well on the medicine he has gotten from the vet so back to the Vet next week for an update from him. Thank you!!

Oh thank you so much...yes he seems to be better in my arms or on a soft rug or blanket when he is having the fits. I go back to the vet next week for a re-evaluation so I will definitely keep you all posted! Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers!

Caron, I have a quick question...Does Murphy seem to know in advance that something is wrong, before his seizure? Winston always seems to come to me right before this happens, like maybe he feels it coming on...but then bang it happens really fast, within seconds...sometimes he doesn't make it all the way to me...but it seems like he tries to. How about your Murphy?

i would have him bile acid tested as seizures is a real sign of liver disease and could be liver shunt and not all vets are knowledgeable about mvd and liver shunt. I am on the Liver_Shunt_And_MVD_Support@yahoogroups.com group and many times vets are not knowledgeable about this as mine was not. I have an mvd dog. The test is cheap and worth ruling out as the percentage of yorkies with this disease is high. All it is is a fast for 12 hrs pull blood , then feed then 2 hrs later pull blood again so not invasive and at least rule out liver shunt.

My Tucker has seizures and does the exact same thing. Sometimes he doesn't make it all the way to me either. By now, I'm use to it so I usually meet him halfway. I feel so bad because I feel like he is coming to me so that I can make it all better but I can't do anything but hold him until its over. He locks his eyes with mine the entire time and I just have to hope that I'm somehow giving him comfort.

Hmmm. I wonder if they have some sense of what's coming somehow; a taste, a sound in their ears maybe, a tingling. I say that because Tink also tries to come to me when she has seizures. If we're sleeping, she comes up to my face and chuffs on it. I think Tink tastes something because she starts licking her lips and gives her head one little shake if she's awake.

How is Murphy coming along now? Winston has been seizure free for 2 months today...I am so very thankful.
I wish, hope and pray that all the furbabies seizures would stop...Wouldn't that be a blessing? I know I would feel blessed.
I definitely think that Winston "knows" a few minutes in advance...He tries to get to me, and usually wants me to hold him in my lap. That is when I grab the NutriCal...But I feel so bad for him, I absolutely hate to see him like that. Hence, the frequent puppy food feedings...to keep his sugar up at all times. So far, so good!!!
