| puppy exhuastion My 14 week old..who has behaved very happily would not move or eat or anything today. He had the shakes and a dry nose. I am so new at this I didnt even know a dry nose was bad , but was suspicious. I gave nutrical and fet water with syringe. Then took to vet. He never improved. Glycemic test was 76 , so he was fine there as well as everything esle DRchecked out. He gave him some dextrose and sent our limp baby home. Said it could be from him overdoing it the days prior and could rebound....BUT that if not better tomorrow , will do blood work and start to dig deeper. Have any of you ever had the experience of your pup having a down day due to exhaustion. Dr said to watch him over night too. I thought for sure he was low on sugar...now i am worried.

| I am sorry your baby is not doing well. Hope he feels better soon. If he continues to do poorly and the vet does more tests make sure he tests for liver shunt.

| Dont jump to conclusions and start thinking he has a shunt. It could just be the heat or maybe he has an upset tummy. It could be alot of things. Louie quit eating for a couple days and just layed around and didnt want to do anything or he would just stand in one spot for long periods of time. The doc figured he probably tweeked his back and gave him a steroid shot and low and behold he was fine the next day. Maybe his teeth are hurting him also. My little Chance did the same thing for a couple days and I believe it was because he has his baby teeth and they are getting crowded and hurt him. After a couple days he was fine also so it could really be alot of things. He is right at that age where those second set of teeth are probably hurting him. |

| When our little girl was about that age, if we took her out for walk and played fetch with her or added any other activity on top of taking her for a walk, she'd be totally beat the next day, just lay around and sleep all day. It worried us the first few times, but eventually we figured out that this was the way she reacted to too much activity. The little ones are more prone to this since they tend to be like little kids. They get carried away and then conk out and sleep non-stop. She's 10 mos. now and she recuperates a lot faster. She has more energy and recoups a lot faster. She can go for a walk and then play catch-the-frisbee in the back yard for an hour later on without totally crashing the next day. Last edited by Sweetums; 07-30-2007 at 08:20 PM. |

| well, Kirby is still lethargic and not eating today...so he will be going back into the vet for further tests. He seems so sad....I am very sad.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I hope your little guy gets better soon...make sure this time your vet runs tests to really to find something out. It could be anything but you want to make sure you are doing the right thing and not let him keep acting that way if something is really wrong!! Please keep us updated on what you find out!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | POOR Baby !! I'd def take him back in and let them run bloodwork on him and I hope he gets to feeling better - it's so hard seeing them sick isn't it ? Sending hugs and get well wishes - I hope it isn't a liver shunt - we're seeing way too many these days - |
