| Trying my best not to panic.... I took my 4 year old yorkie Lulu to her veterinarian for a cough. We have suspected that she had a slightly collapsing trachea for some time, however it was very mild and only affected her once or twice a year. The vet asked if I was ok with her doing a chest xray as a precaution. They were gone for a long time and when she came back into the room with Lulu she said she had an enlarged heart. The next day she had an EKG which came back normal and this Friday she is scheduled to have an echocardiogram and full blood work. Has anyone else had this scare or similar situation? I am trying not to panic... |

| It is scary when our pups have medical problems but it seems like your vet is taking care of the situation. Best wishes to you & Lulu. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My yorkie Zorro that had back in the 80's was diagnosed with a collapsing trachea and an enlarged heart at the age of 5. He lived a normal life and passed away at almost 13 years af age from kidney disease. I am sure with the meds today they an do so much. Good luck.

| I sold a puppy a few years ago who was quite small. After she left the owners vet said due to her size they suspected possible liver shunt. They did blood tests and thankfully they came back okay. But they also did an xray and said her heart was enlarged. I was just sure the puppy had a congential heart defect and was worried sick about it for two weeks until the people took her in to the specialist. To my amazement the owners contacted me with wonderful news. Her heart was very normal, but due to her size it was a bit bigger, but the specialist said that was okay for her. I get occasional pics of the little girl and she is 2 now. SO far so good. She is spunky cute and healthy. I hope this is also the news you hear, that the size of her heart is right for her and not part the problem. Well wishes sent your way. Please let us know the outcome of your visit. | I am hoping for a good outcome. It seems like forever to wait until Friday and then maybe even longer for the full results. We live in not a large city so the specialist has to come from another town. Apparently he comes and makes his rounds to all the vets here once every couple of weeks, so she will spend the day in the doggie hospital that day until he gets to her. I am thankful he does this so we did not have to travel to him. She's my first yorkie, however I now have two. But I think with your first you truely fall for the deepest. She is such a liitle teddie bear. |

| So, the results are in and after many hundreds of dollars we found out that Lulu has a heart larger than a yorkie normally has. The vet cardiologist could not find anything structurally wrong with it after the ultrasound and the EKG and the blood work showed nothing abnormal except the actual size of it. The only thing of concern was that she has an abnormal amount of blood vessels in her lungs from some sort of inflamation. However both vets said it was the best possible outcome and she should live a long life if we are diligent in trying to control her cough when she has it for several days with meds. So after many days of worry, we were understandably thrilled and her new nickname at home is now Valentine in light of her "big heart"!!!! |

| Well, that's good news. I know she'll be just fine, cause you love her so much you'll just take excellent care of her. My poodle had a heart murmer and an enlarged heart and he lived to be a ripe old 17!. |
