Oh My, that looks painful. I've never seen anything like that. Looks like a trip to the vet is in order. Hope all is well soon.

from scratching as for 2.5 years dealing with allergies - she is no on atopica and temaril p to control itching but came home and she had this so put neosporin and a sock on her neck - i am sooooo frustrated - she now goes to a dermatologist for a year now

My goodness, I ahve never seen anything like that. I feel so sorry for her, that has to itch and burn so bad. Have they figured out what is causing the allergies? Poor thing?

OMG, that looks painful. Poor baby. My shihtzu (okay, this was like 18 years ago...memory might not be perfect) had something like that on her neck once, turned out it was an allergic reaction to a new collar:eek: Her's was actually seeping and seemed to appear overnight. Have you used a new collar, t-shirt, etc. on your baby in the last couple of days?

no collar and wearing tshirt and sock around neck to protect it as when i take it off she itches it raw like that within 10 minutes - she has allergies real bad and is now going to a dermatologist - we have been dealing with vet after vet and holistic vet for 2.5 years - she is on atopica and temaril p and still does this to herself time to time :(

Has anyone done blood work for what she may be allergic too?

Is it worse in the summer or the winter?

Do you wash her bedding and clothes with a no dye soap?

yes two allergy blood tests, yes i wash all bedding in dye and perfume free armor hammer baking soda wash, she is seeing a dermatologist now and on hills salmon and dd diet but looking into home cooking her as seems to help her.

Poor baby, I can't help, but want to give my well wishes. Otis chews around his tail all the time and is on hydroxyzine twice daily. But it doesn't look like that. Good luck, I know your frustrated!!! Hang in there.

What do you wash your floors with? One of my girls is allergic to Clorax floor cleaner and Pinesol. She scratched herself raw before I figured out the problem. I hope they can figure out what is going on.

My little boy, Hobbs, scratches his neck raw like that sometimes. What I did was shave his neck (you cannot even tell really) and rub coconut oil on it and rub it on there a couple of times a day until the scab goes away. I have been keeping his neck shaved and he hasn't scratched it since.

My sons dogs both have bad allergies that look like that from their constant scratching and chewing on their feet. He takes them to a dermatologist and my son has to give them shots...which seems to help. Good luck. Poor baby looks miserable. Patty

Debbie,

Have you considered looking in a new direction? What do you think of the possibility that rather than an allergy, it is a nervous condition? The only reason I ask is that you have said you have just tried everything under the sun. I think I would try and find out if the scratching is some kind of nervous condition, and the redness is a result of the scratching.

What do you think?

Oh no, that looks pretty severe (and painful) Zoe too suffers from allergies, always scratches her right side and has once scratched so much her right eyelid swelled, infected and loss a lot of hair on her right eyelid. Right now, she scratches off a lot of hair on her right nostril but this is nowhere near yours. Hopefully a vet can check him out soon!

:thumbup: may be start looking in the house not at the dog. the garden. something else. I am sure you have tried every food, every wash, every med. I had a lab. it was the rug.

thanks - yeah no carpet ripped that out and put laminate, hard wood and tile in area she is in - also oreck air purifier- no chemicals on floor except vinegar and water. wash clothes in dye and perfume free. bath her in aloe and oatmeal all natural.

we have been to holistic vet, regular vet and dermatologist - now working with nutritionist to do home cook diet - 2.5 years going from specialist to specialist - ugh - she is now on atopica and temaril p - gave her a temaril p along with neosporin last night and toda much better - vicious cycle

i am leaning more towards liver not processing toxins well so over reactive histamines in body causing itchiness since now know she has mvd. When i gave benedryl which makes them more relaxed and sleepy still did not help as she still itched and one vet gave her ace (sedative) and she still itched so definitely think allergies with underlying liver issues

really the shots work? I have not homecooked or done allergy shots so those are the last resort. I have not heard one person say allergy shots work so did they for your son? Dee Dee has been going to dermatologist for 1 year now.

great news - what kind of coconut oil as just ordered coco de creme by quality first international as it is pure organic raw coconut oil. what kind do you use so i can start asap as the nutritionist donia sea recommended this as well.

I got organic virgin coconut oil from the health food store. I put it on their food AND also use it as a topical if Hobbs' skin breaks out. I don't put it on his skin unless I shave the area first. I always helps. I prefer the coconut oil over the neosporin because it is fine if the coconut oil is ingested. Obviously it is NOT ok if neosporin is ingested.

Another thing that helped us is that we alternate oils on their food. One night we'll do coconut oil, the next night we'll do fish oil, the next night we'll do flax seed oil and we rotate every 3 nights like that.

Oh, Debbie - I know you've been struggling w/ this terribly. I feel so bad for Dee Dee, it looks miserable to endure this.

I think I've asked this before but: you've tried cortisone? What about cortisone shots in the area? Diet? Is it eczema or some other skin disorder besides allergies?

My vet gave me some Gentacyn (sp?) yesterdya for Wylie's little toe ouchie. It is an antibiotic spray that also contains cortisone - I wonder if you've tried that?

Have they done a skin scrape in a petri dish?
