| Help! 3 year-old male having seizures Hi all, I am pretty new around here but I have already found that many of you are very knowledgable about the Yorkshire Terrier breed and I am coming to this board for help. My sister's three-year-old male Yorkie, Bogey, had a seizure last night, he became paralyzed and then afterwards throws up. She took him to the vet and had bloodwork done. This is his fourth seizure this year. Does anyone know what could possibly be causing these? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! |

| I'm not sure what the vet has said I haven't gotten a chance to speak with my sister yet, I'm at work. But, she said that what happens is he gets like paralyzed and then will start shaking really bad and panting and then this time he threw up and peed afterwards, but the first time he pooped and my sister thought he was constipated. She said he doesn't pass out or foam at the mouth or anything but it scares her and him. Could he possibly be hypoglycemic (sp?) or would it be happening more? Thanks for your kind comments |

| Has she ever had her baby bile acid tested?? This is not standard with regular bloodwork, you have to ask for this test specifically. It would indicate if the baby is having liver problems....Many times yorkies have seizures due to liver problems like liver shunt/mvd/hmd... Does he ever press his head against the wall or furniture after meals? I'm sorry that your sister's yorkie is having problems. The bloodwork may indicate where the problem is....

| It may or may not be liver problems...I pray that your sister is able to find out what Bogey's problem is and that they're able to fix it. My yorkie has liver shunt/mvd and he has never done the walking in circles. Yorkies with liver problems may exhibit only some or one symptoms for it.

| problem I would say he has epilepsy..they most often loose bowel/bladder control, become stiff and can vomit...as a rule liver and low blood sugar act a bit different..the vet can give him meds...if it is epilepsy and left untreated, it tends to cause brain damage the more often it happens. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Poor Baby Okay I can only share my experiance with seizures.....Diggy had them...and he did infact poop AND pee himslef every time he had one. Never passed out....never even closed his eyes. He stiffened up, shook, and drooled. I did Bile acid test for liver and it was good, they did find low blood sugar. Cure was mini meals ever 3-4 hours. Now Digg was only 8-12 weeks old when this was happening which hpoglycemia is common at that young age. Your sisters dog is older and its not so common to come on at that age. DOesntmean it cannot happen tho. I would do like many said and run Bile acid test, its not too expensive and cannot hurt. If the result are good on that then I would explore the hypoglycemia & epilespy route. Just my opinion and I am far from and expert. Just have a little experiance with seizures, and I do know they absolutely stink. I pray for your sisters dog and if you ever need anyone to talk to let me know...Im here.

| I would just like to thank everyone for the advice, I'll let you know what the bloodwork says when I hear from my sister. She's very busy with my 3-month old neice and little Bogey, but I'll let y'all know when she tells me what the vet finds out, I'll also tell her to get that acid bile test done. I really hope he is okay too |
