| Rimadyl?? Sparky got neutered Friday morning and the vet gave me Rimadyl to give him today if he seems in pain. I did a google search and saw some bad reviews about it. Has anyone else used this drug? I don't want him in pain, but I don't want to give him something that may cause him more problems or even death! Help! |

| Gracie was given Rimadyl following her spay. It really helped her pain. It was only 1 piece of a pill a day for two days. I would think the bad side effects would be with long term use, like for arthritis or another chronic pain condition. There was no way I was going to let Gracie suffer through surgical pain.

| Hi, my pekingese Snoot was given this for pain after getting neutered. He got really mean, was panting terrible, high fever, became unaware of who any of us were and a few other things. I took him off the pill and he was fine in a day. Most dogs are fine taking this for pain but there's always a chance for a reaction with any medicine. Your baby will probably be ok taking it but watch him carefully to make sure he's ok. I hope your baby gets back to himself soon.

| My yorkie almost died on that medicine...He was vomiting and couldn't keep anything down, extremely lethargic. It was very scary for me us...He had serious side effects and I have no doubt that the meds did further damage to his liver. I know some people have used it with great success though.

| I haven't given it to Sparky. He seems to be doing alright. He doesn't sit around whining like he did yesterday when I brought him home. He's been up walking around, even trying to jump on his "doggie big sister" Cindy (coon hound). He chews on her neck whenever I'm putting the leashes on them right before they go outside. He went to the bathroom outside just a little while ago and his stool was really loose. It wasn't like water, but it was loose with a little consistency to it. Could that be caused from the stress of what he went through yesterday? He's eating alright, drinking water fine, and otherwise doing well. He is a little calmer (and I know it's from the surgery and not feeling up to par yet) but like I said, he doesn't seem to be in pain (judging on how he whined and cried yesterday after bringing him home). But after reading the google search on Rimadyl, I just didn't feel real secure in giving it to him. I really try to watch what he gets, and I was going to call the vet for something else if he cried and whimpered alot. Thanks for the help and support.....we want the best for our babies. |

| After Miko had his last surgery, we couldn't give him any pain meds because of his liver problems, but he did okay.

| Rocky didn't have any pain meds after his neuter, 2 days later he tried to "tie" with Sunshine (she decided to go into heat that week) so, in his mind , he was pretty much pain free by then.

| When Ellie had oral surgery she was given Metacam. It is for pain and maybe swelling (I"d have to read the box but I lost it in the cupboard somewhere). Maybe there is something else that your vet could prescribe. I'm not sure if Metacam has many side effects and I'm afraid to look.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | We gave Ozzie Rimadyl --before I read all the negative stuff about it. He didn't, however, have any bad reaction to it. And, it seemed to ease pain it was prescribed for. |
