| In a lot of pain after abdominal neuter Ferdinand was neutered today and is home with me now. One of his testicles never dropped so they had to remove it abdominally and the other the normal way. So he has 2 incisions. Over the past 30-45 minutes he's started crying a lot and is visibly in a lot of pain. What should I do? They didn't send me home with any pain killers - just antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. Is there anything I can give him to help with the pain? It really upsets me to see him in pain like this and not know what to do.

| oh I'm so sorry.....I know what it's like to see them in pain. The anti-inflammatories should work for pain relief but if you don't feel that's enough call your Vet. If he's not available perhaps an Emergency Vet can help you. Hugs to the little guy......

| I just gave him one of his anti-inflammatories like you suggested. I'm glad he ate it, I just hope it doesn't make him sick. I can't believe they don't send them home with some kind of pain killer or relaxer after doing it abdominally. Is that a standard practice? I'm just sitting her crying because it kills me to see him in so much pain.

| did they send him home with Rimadyl? you said chewable and I know they are.....if so try and give him a snack with the pill. They can be pretty tough on the tummy.

| Really? How old is Milo? I was reading that it can be tougher on the older furkids. He'll be a year old on Sunday.

| just had a thought....will he allow you to use an ice pack? wrap it in a towel so there's no chance of him getting wet and see if that'll help him. hugs....

| I would get it checked out. Rocky also was cryptorchid, and he would whine in pain every now and then if we picked him up the wrong way, but he wasn't just lying their crying. Also, he only had one incision from it. I would check w/ your vet to make sure he's ok! I hope he feels better.

INSIST on pain pills immediately. Personally, I would never go to that vet again. Just like surgery hurts us, it hurts our little ones. This was completely irresponsible by your vet. I am so sorry your baby has to go through this.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Poor baby and I can't believe they didn't send you home with something....in a pinch - we CAN use baby asprin for these little guys but ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR VET to make sure it's ok before giving any dog asprin. I hope he feels better soon bless his heart - that must be really upsetting for you |

| We called our vet as soon as we noticed that our little girl was in pain after her spay surgery and the pain pills they had given her had run out. I described what she was doing (whimpering, shivering and looking desperate) and she said, particularly that the shivering was a sign of pain. So they gave us some more pain pills right away. I would insist on pain pills for your baby. I hope you were able to get some. How is your little guy now? |

| He needs pain pills! Rebel was also cryptorchid and had pain pills for several days. See if you can get in touch with your vet. He should definitely have something to help him out. Poor little guy

| Hope your baby gets some relief soon. Poor guy. I had a vet tell me once they wanted them to be in some discomfort so they wouldn't be too rambuncious and open the incision, but give me a break, they shouldn't have to be in pain.
