I am so sorry to hear about your little baby. Did the vet do blood tests for portal liver shunt? I would suggest you tell the vet about Mac. I think that it is most common in younger dogs. When Mac got sick the vet said it was unlikely that he had liver shunt issues because it shows up much earlier. I would urge blood and urine tests to see if protein is being lost. Good luck. Thanks for your reply, Yes my vet did that first because he felt sure that is waht she was gonna test positive for. I am taking her back in the am just to check with them again. She is not having any bm's or vomiting. She is resting well and is still being force fed. If she had coccidia (spelling) would she get over it on her own with the treatment we are doing.?? Or would she need meds if so do you know what they are? I will look that up and learn more about that. Also a liver shunt??? That is a strange sounding thing. How soon do you know if they have that? I woke her up and fed her and took her outside to stimulate her a bit just to see if she would perk up a bit more. Which she did even prancing a bit a playing w/ a leaf. I let her walk around in the house a bit and then put her back to bed so she wouldnt get to tired. She has been asleep every since. She is going to the vet in the am and I am going to leave her there for the day and let them evaluate her again.

Liver shunt can be checked by doing a fasting bile acid test...It's only around $40 and the test is worth it, just for peace of mind. Plus, if she does have liver shunt, you want to know as soon as possible. I encourage everyone to have their yorkies bile acid tested either before they purchase their pet or after they get him/her. You can tell if they have liver shunt from the time that they are young pups...They can tell by doing the bile acid test. When we took Miko to the emergency vets office when he was a pup, we told them we suspected liver shunt, and they said "no way, he's too young". Obviously, they weren't educated on this because it is a congenital disease/defect...I pray that your baby does NOT have this.
My yorkie does have a liver shunt, but unfortunately, his is not repairable...Many ARE though.
If your baby has coccidia, it will most likely not go away on its own...If she has it, she needs to be put on Albon...We almost lost our baby because of coccidia and all the other things that were going on in his body.

Wow, poor little baby. I'm sure they need to sleep a lot when they are very young, but I noticed that when we finally got our little girl to eat (who was 12 weeks old when we got her), she got a lot peppier and was really full of fun and mischief much more than before.

So this makes me wonder if your little baby is tired so much of the time because of the eating issue. Most of these little ones need to eat every 4 hours or more often the younger they are. I would feed the puppy with the syringe when it doesn't eat for 4 hours and if she isn't interested at that point in eating.
