Mayson is limping after a day at the dog park On Saturday, I took Mayson to the dog park and I think he may have been roughed up by a puppy German Shepard. After we left, I noticed that Mayson had a slight limp - by the time we reach home, the limp got worse. I inspected his leg and figured out that the pain was coming from his paw. I couldn't find anything on the paw - no cut, sore, bruising, foreign object. The paw looks identical to his other paws..the only difference is that Mayson is super sensitive...the slightest touch send Mayson to freak out. I'm hesitant to take Mayson to the vet, because I have a feeling that it just might be sore that'll go away on it's own. However, I am worried that it could possibly something else that I may not be aware of. Also, it pains me to see Mayson limping. Any suggestions?

You may want to take him to the vet to get it checked. It may not be anything serious, but you never know. My sister's dog was over my house last weekend and slipped on my stairs and was limping for a couple of days. He kept limping (because he kept running around and jumping) so she decided to take him to the vet, they did an x-ray and it turns out to be a bad sprain. They gave him medication to relief the pain. Hope your baby feels better! Last edited by Madvelazquez; 04-16-2007 at 10:31 AM.

I am guessing that it could perhaps be a splinter not really visible to the naked eye Maybe you want to check it again as why would he wince with just touching it gently Hope you can figure it out soon . . . .especially since he is hurting

I'll have to check much closer again tonight. I do have bandage around the foot and leg just in case it might be a sprain. But, the more I think about it, it seems more likely that it may be something stuck in his paw...only because the pain is isolated in the paw. I don't even know if there is such a thing as a sprain toe? Either way, if the limping doesn't go away by tomorrow - I think I will have to take him to the vet. I'm just worried about cost, cause they'll probably do an x-ray.

I checked Mayson's paw again and I do notice that the knuckle on one of his nails is red and swollen. I looked all around to see if were anything stuck in his paw, but couldn't find anything. I scheduled an appt at the vet for tomorrow, so we'll see what they find.
