Zoie's vet visit.... very bad news So I took Zoie to the vet just a couple hrs ago.... The vet was great.. best vet i've been to. But, poor Zoie.... she has heart failure     My poor baby. I dont really know any details really. I saw her x-ray, her heart is 1 and half times the normal size  I didn't really get to ask many questions, I was in tears, and couldn't really think or talk, i was just in shock. So I will talk to the vet tomorrow, hopefully find out the results of more tests, and ask more questions. I have to schedule her to see a radiologist for her heart. :( I feel so sad and helpless.. I dont know what to do for her, it just breaks my heart. They put her on heart medicine and diaretic for the fluid in her lungs. She will be on hear medicine for the rest of her life   The vet touched her and listened to her heart and knew it right away that she had heart failure.. I had taken her 3 times to the other vet and they kept giving me medicine for her diarreah... I want to go hurt that vet! I'm so mad at her! |
I'm so sorry about your little one. I have no idea what to say to you but I will keep you guys in my prayers. |
I am very sorry about the bad news  ...We will keep you both in our prayers... |
Thank you very much. I just hate feeling helpless. I just hope she's not in pain. :( |
i am so, so sorry to hear about Zoie. I dont know if humans and dogs are alike but, my dad had cong heart failure for over 15 yrs and it was controlled with medication. He did fine, he had to rest during the day for a couple hours but did great. Im hopeing that the dr can give you meds to help and that Zoie has many more years of happiness. |
  I'm SOOOOO sorry  :hands: |
Im sorry to hear this, I will keep her in my prayers. |
i am so sorry to hear about Zoie, will keep her in my prayers |

I will definitely find out more once I can go see the radiologist. The vet said he will do an ultra sound of her heart and then we can go from there. I want to put her in a bubble so she can't get hurt now. :( |
AWWWW dena i just read this :( Im so very sorry about this sad news about zoie , Poor little girl . I know this must be so heartbreaking for you, But you have to stay strong for zoie . You will be in my thoughts and prayers . If you need anything you know im always here for you . Big hugs |
Oh Dena, I am so sorry. I will be praying for her and that it isn't as bad as you fear. Huge hugs to you both. |
I'm so terribly sorry to hear that... I hope with the right medicine she will enjoy a lot of good years to come :hearts-xx |
Try your best to calm down :) I know the words "heart failure" are very scary, but it's truly not as bad as it sounds. Failure is too harsh a word. I take care of many (very elderly) people in a nursing home who have had CHF for years and years. It is controlled by medications and I've never seen anyone in pain due to the CHF. The vet sounds fantastic! I'd bet your baby's in very good hands!! You'll be in my thoughts! Good luck! |
I'm so sorry, my prayers are with you and Zoie! |
I am so sorry to hear this. My parents recently found out their 13 year old Yorkie has a heart murmer and enlarged heart (along with many other things). Their vet said they should be able to control it with heart medicine. He also told them not to let him over exert himself. Like other people said, I don't know how similar people & dog hearts are but my grandfather was diagnosed with congestive heart failure about 20 years ago. He does not take very good care of himself and he is doing fine. It sounds like you have a good vet to take care of little Zoie now. We will be praying for you. |
I'm sorry to hear about your baby....I will keep her in my prayers.....but congestive heart failure is NOT a death sentence......THANK GOD!!! think positive.....it can be controlled with meds......hopefully your vet will be able to explain more to you today......GOOD LUCK :hands::hands::hands::hands::hands: |
OMG I was ready to cry when I read your 1st post then read the other responses to you....it sounds like there IS hope and I'll be waiting to hear what the specialist says....How old is your little Zoie now ?? I would be sooooo devestated hearing this too :( :( ...but try to keep your chin up and hope for the best. I'm so sorry and will be thinking good thoughts for you. |
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Please do keep us updated. I'm sure this is a very scary time for you. |
Oh, I'm so sorry your baby is ill. I too know what it feels like to hear those words from the vet and go into shock and not be able to hear anymore:( My little Hoku has a significant heart murmur and will eventually go into heart failure and I am dreading that day. But, like everyone says, there are medications and other options out there so keep your chin up and don't give up without a fight!!! Keep us posted on what the ultrasound shows. You are both in my prayers! |
I am so sorry to hear about your sweet baby!!! :( I had a similar problem with my (RIP) Kelsey! Same vet for years and changed vets because of relocating! This vet, first visit ............ told me she had an enlarged heart, water on her lungs and a collapased trachea! Three meds daily kept her with us for a while but if the other vet had caught the problems earlier we may have still had her with us! Choosing the right vet is so important!!! Again so sorry your wee one is ill; the meds will help her!!! |
I'm very sorry that your baby is sick. Try to relax a little, it's not nearly as bad as it sounds. I have a 12 year old lab who has an enlarged heart and CHF we just diagnosed it late last summer. She's taking Enalapril and Lasix (which are the same thing they give people for this condition) and she's doing great. This can easily be controlled with medication and she can live a long happy life. Best of luck. |
Dena - first of all, I'm so very sorry to hear this about your baby:( Sending you lots of hugs and prayers! As others have said, a diagnosis of heart failure is not a death sentence. CHF is a condition that can be treated and controlled with medication - and the person (human or fur) can live a long life. Please keep us posted after you hear more today! Know that we are all sending our good thoughts and prayers your way. |
Hopefully the responses here have helped you reach a little calmer level but I agree that this is a very scary condition. Our toy poodle lived many normal years though with CHF on daily medication so there is hope for your Zoie. Get lots of info from the new vet and be diligent with her medication and she should be okay. I didn't see that you told how old she is?? |
Zoie is barely 5 months old. Yeah, her old vet was terrible. I kept taking her back for her cough and they never once tried to treat her for it. They kept telling me to get her dewormed.. she's been dewormed 3 times!! That's malpractice, I'm so glad i changed vets. It is a little comforting to hear that it's controllable with meds, but she's soo little, and i hate the idea of having to give her meds every day :( :( :( She's so hyper and goes nuts with wookie every day.. I hope she's going to be ok. I'll let you all know what the vet says. Thanks so much for your support, Wookie, Zoie and I really appreciate it :) |
I am so sorry to hear about Zoie. Will keep her in my heart and prayers. |
Dena I am so sorry to hear this news! I will be keeping little Zoie in my thoughts. I know that she is a strong strong girl and will get through this. Big hugs to you! |

OMG I am so sorry. :( PLEASE keep us updated on her condition. She will be in my prayers. |
I'm sorry to hear that:( I hope and pray that the meds will help her to live a long happy life with you. I'd take this up with the breeder, that's definitely reason for a refund and they also need to not breed the parents again. This is congenital. I would also demand a refund from that other vet for all the visits you and Zoie had to endure, with no positive results:mad: They should have checked her heart, dangit! |
So sorry hear to about your sick little girl. You are lucky to have a vet that you like and feel comfortable with ... However, I would still get a second opinion. (I have a friend whose pet was diagnosed with heart murmer and she worried for 5 years. Moved and changed vets ... new vet said, Heart murmer? She doen't have a heart murmer!) You can't be too careful. The more information you have the better, knowledge is power. Hope you get nothing but good news in the future! |
