Thank you, she seems to be on the mend, have been feeding her chicken and rice, have made a note of the food you mentioned and will keep it in mind. I have a strong suspicion it is the table food I give her, am going to cut that out completely and see how she does ... she isn't going to like it

I have had problems with this in the last few years with my almost 12 year old Yorkie. Now I have him on Medi-Cal Hypoallergenic and do not give him any treat biscuits anymore. He gets a little Natural Balance tinned Duck and potato. When I give treat biscuits to my other Yorkies, he gets a few of his Hypoallergenic kibble and is quite happy with that. So far he has been fine, no bouts at all. When he did have a bout I put him immediately on flagyl for a few days and it stopped. I still think this can be caused by some foods they can become sensitive to. Tricky part is to figure out what won't set them off. I have to be sure he does not get into the food I have for my other dogs.

Glad to hear your little guy is doing well and I think Emma has the same issue, I think the table food she gets has something to do with it. She seems to get upset tummy when she eats bacon (she loves that), and she is prone to pancreatitis me and the vet are starting to think. Her medication for cushings may have set off her first pancreatitis attack since I've had her. She was very sick and we almost lost her then.

She is adopted and has been with us for just over 2 years, don't know her history before that other than her teeth were awful when we adopted her.

She was not suppose to be at the adoption event until her teeth were fixed but someone accidentally brought her and the rest is history. She was meant to be with us!!

My little one has had multiple episodes. It seems to be related to stress. When my dad was sick and I was gone alot she would have flare ups. As long as she stays on the rx low fat gastrointestinal diet and I don't have to leave her for long periods of time she is fine. I always keep her meds on hand and start her on them right away if she even acts like she getting sick. Good luck with your baby.

I haven't given Elsy any kind of treats since the episodes started and when the other two got theirs Elsy got to where she would' t even raise her head up when treat time came around. I always felt so bad for her. The last three weeks I've been giving her small pieces of steamed carrots and so far so good and she doesn't' t feel left out.

Awwwwwww poor baby, I know what you mean, Emma gets no table food anymore and she doesn't understand what happened. I give her a treat once in a while and she is figuring it out. I have kitties also and they all get my food when I am eating so that makes it extra hard to not give Emma some of my food.

May I ask what medicine she gets when she may be having a flare up?

Cerenia for nausea and vomiting, sucralfate tablet mixed as slurry and given with syringe helps to coat stomach and flagyl. Since liquid flagyl doesn't keep for extended periods of time the last time he changed that to Albon 5%. I always keep the meds on hand or if we go somewhere take them with me. He also said we could do pepcid every day if needed as preventive. I did for about 3 weeks after last episode and quit to see how she would do. It is so hard to get meds in her. I only give her enough of the rx gastrointestinal can food with her pills but she knows it and will spit them out.

I believe that Couver had a HGE flare up. It was really bad, vomiting, diarrhea and nausea. His poo was bright red and jelly like. I took him to the vet and got him on Sucralfate, Metronodazole (sp) and Cerenia and his symptoms improved. Just recently I'm noticing things are flaring up again and he's vomiting. We are headed to the vet again today

Oh no, Michelle, I am very sorry to hear Couver is sick again.

Let us know what the vet advises. Keeping Couver and you in my thoughts.

My Fletch had it borderline. After 1 day of bloody diarrhea, I took him in, they did blood work and told me he was a very sick little boy and they wanted to keep him overnight. Weird thing was, he was acting fine. Aside from the vomiting and diarrhea, he was running around, jumping on the couch, barking out the window. Anyways, I decided not to admit him bc he would be unattended from 8pm until 6am, so I wanted him home with me where I'd watch him. He got meds, sub-Q fluids for 3 days (I brought him back in everyday for those) and prescription food. It took about 10 days before his bloodwork started going back to normal. It was not a severe case. Anyways, about 3 months later, back at it... same things. Again, I didn't admit him and he just went back on the meds, the food, the fluids... he recovered quicker that time around.
Couple months later... again!!! So the vet started asking me questions about our house and what was going on. Well... Fletch is a 'super' sensitive dog. He is afraid of everything, we call him (lovingly of course) sketchy fletchy! Putting 2 & 2 together, we realized that he was getting worked up and making himself sick when he saw suitcases, he knew that meant we were leaving. All 3 bouts happened days before we were leaving (or I was leaving) for a trip or just a weekend. So the vet said it was more than likely stress induced and not 'REALLY' HGE.... but it was a mild HGE. Thankfully its mild, I couldn't imagine it being worse!

Glad Ozzie is doing better!

These little dogs are so smart. Elsy hasn't had a flare up in a few months but she must sense I'm going to be leaving tomorrow afternoon and will be gone overnight. She has been looking real weak eyed and just lying around for 2 days and then today she refused to eat anything. No vomiting or diarrhea just looks and acts like she doesn't feel good. I started her on all her meds except the cerenia this morning and she finally ate a little late tonight. It makes me wonder if she understands my talking about the little trip. Sometimes I think their too smart for their own good. Does anyone else feel like that or am I just being silly.
