				 | Thank you for the update for tonight. I'm sure you feel a lot better having talked to someone that really knows. The blood in the placenta (there is blood in the afterbirth) isn't the really important thing. Hard to go into here, but the placenta has a hormone in it (pitocin), that helps to make the uterus contract. That's why eating it is actually helpful for the mommy dog. Sometimes a vet will give pitocin to induce labor, or after whelping to prevent hemmorhage. The puppies nursing also makes the mommy dog produce pitocin on her own. That is why I said it is good they are nursing. The milk shouldn't be "contaminated" by the birth products, at least, that I know of. I still think the fact that she passed another puppy tonight would put me on alert for anything else she may pass, or any bleeding she may do....AND make me want to have her examined in the morning. It sounds like she is doing ok. I'm sorry that you are having to go through this with your baby. I hope it all comes out ok. I'll bet the other three are just adorable. Good luck with your nursery! Please let us know how things go. I'd love to see pictures of your new family! |
