| Charlie has a lump Oh - I am sick. I was grooming Charlie this afternoon and realized that he has a lump in his abdomen just in front of his hip. It is the size of a robin's egg and is hard. He doesn't cry of react when I try to manipulate it. It does not appear to "move" either. I am taking him to the vet in an hour but I am very worried. This little guy just can't catch a break. He is feeling fine and is as perky as always though. He can't have had the lump for more than (oh at the longest..... let's say) a week because I brush him everyday and he was at the vet for a complete physical last Wednesday! Please pray for Charlie's sake that I am imagining this and it is nothing! |

| Has Charlie had shots recently? Everytime my 2 got shots, they developed a bump as a reaction which is completely normal. |

| same with Jaden, when he had his vaccines he got a hard lump on the back of his kneck, it went away about 2-3 weeks later. Hope you've got good news for us when you get back from the vet! |

| No - no shots. If he was an old dog, I'd be sure it was a sebaceouls cyst but he only just turned a year old last month. I'm worried because of the recent mix-up by the pharmacy of his meds and his elevated pancratic enzymes that showed in his blood work last week. This is just too much for me today on top of the fire we had here yesterday! |

| I just went thru the exact same thing with Lucy about a week ago. In the exact same place. I took her to the vet and he checked her thoroughly. He told me that small dogs get in such a hurry that sometimes they "clip" corners or small pieces or furniture and can get a bruise or a "knot" that is nothing but where they ran into something. He told me to watch it for 2 weeks to see if it went away because he didn't want to put her under anesthesia unless absolutely necessary. ( he doesn't with small dogs) I've been checking every day and it is almost gone. Hope you have the same news.

| OK - we're back. Vet went back and reviewed all of Charlie's records to look for anything in the last few months that might be linked to the lump but found nothing, unless it was caused by the shot of penicillin he had in October after his last dog fight but the chances of that are really nil because the lump is sizable that I and/or the vets would have noticed it. Basically I have a diagnoses of an unspecified tumor (as in a mass) that is about 1.5 cm or there about. After much discussion, we decided the same thing - to watch it for now. I don't think Charlie's system could really withstand going under again or anymore invasive procedures for now. The vet said he is sure it is a tumor of some sorts - except for Charlie's age - he would guess it was a sebaceous cyst as a safe bet. (It does feel similar to my old GSD's cysts) I'm going to run this past Charlie's team at the U of Penn and see what they think as well. At least I have a great group for a second opinion as I go along. After all the stuff that this little guy has been going through I just pray that it turns out to be the result of a knock of some short. Of course I'm going to be getting out the tape measure and measuring it every day! Please God...just cut Charlie a break this one time, please. |

| AWWWWWW! Poor Charlie. I'll also be praying that the lump clears up on it's own and it's nothing serious. |

| Good Luck! Poor little Charlie! We are keeping our fingers and paws crossed. I hope everything turns out to be OK! Hopefully the people at UPENN can help. I used to work at UPENN in one of the labs, I heard that the vet school is wonderful. You can even stay with your pet overnight if necessary.
