I hope it is a good sign that she is at least eating well. I agree that she is small and should be sleeping lots. Perhaps because she had some diarrhea she hasn't gained any weight. Give it a couple more days - keep doing what you're doing and hopefully we will get a good report from you soon!!! Keep eating and getting strong little Gidget!!! |
My vet told me to feed my puppy cottage cheese before it went to bed for the night. He said it is high in protein and sticks with the puppy longer - he also said that it would hold the puppy longer when it slept. You could take your finger and just put some in her mouth -- she'd probably get a swallow down here and there..... My puppy looooooooooooooooved - Gerber baby food chicken sticks - this was one of the first foods he ever ate- and he loved them. Good luck - Carol Jean |
I gave Jewels gerber meat sticks when she was little too. I wouldnt mess around with diahrea with such a little one. I would go to the vet and get meds for it |

When Gidget does get better she will probably hate us. I'm glad she ate a good breakfast because she has refused to eat since, so I have been making her eat. I'm not sure if there is more food on her or on me. The diarrhea is better today. Keeping lots of water in her as well. I am using the recipe that was posted and I will buy some of the baby meat sticks also. Anything that might help I will do. |
I'm so glad Gidget was eating this morning! I can vouch for the meat sticks by gerber too. When I first got Jaden he didn't want to eat or drink but he would gobble those things up. Just keep doing what you're doing, feeding her regularly and keeping her warm and resting can be a good thing. Sometimes when I don't feel good the only thing I want to do is just sleep and sleep and honestly, when I do I seem to get better faster so like Rebecca said as long as she doesn't have low blood sugar and is still responding to noises etc. I wouldn't worry about her resting. Just make sure to wake her up and give her food every 2 hours and plenty of pedialyte. That has electrolights in it so it should help her body's hydration system. Praying for your little girl!! |
Have you tried giving her some puppy replacement milk? When we brought Keira home she was around 4-5 weeks. I bought the puppy formula and she dove right in. We honestly didn't expect her to make it through the night. She was VERY wobbly, had very loose and greasy stools on top of it. She wasn't active and would hardly move around. We did nothing but hold her and feed her every 2 hours. At the time she wasn't even 1 pound. I would really try warming some puppy formula for her. Also try cottage cheese and chicken and chicken broth baby food. Anything to get her to eat. I hope she feels better soon. |
I'm praying too for your baby, I hope Gidget will pull through. |
Sounds like you're doing everything you can do. I hope and pray that she'll come around:love: And believe me, she will NOT hate you, she'll know that you saved her life. I thought for sure that Luna would hate me too, but she loves me to bits and the feeling's mutual. We've formed a tighter bond, I think, because I had to be so hands on with her from the beginning. Hang in there:) Oh, another indicator of low blood sugar is the color of her gums. They should be pinkish red and NOT gray. If they are grey, she needs immediate vet attention, IV fluids and heat support. I was obsessed with checking Lunas for a couple of weeks after her illness. |
Hi, I haven't been on link for a while but I want to say that my little Angel Baby was just a little over 1# at 8 1/2 mos when I got her. She was 1/2 oz when she was born. She would eat though, that's what kept her alive. She had to be coaxed though. When I got her she could only take 2 or so steps then fall down. She was VERY weak, we really didn't think she would live for more than a couple weeks. Her breeder tried her best, but didn't have the full time to devote, as she knew I did. I fed her every 3 or so hours during the day and licks of nutrical in between. I did the chicken, she loved Caesars Filet mignon the most and I gave her the high fat cottage cheese. What I really wanted to touch on however, is that I basically would not leave her alone. I massaged her a lot to stimulate that little body, would let her rest a little and then make her stand up mostly with my hand underneath. I talked and stimulated her in about any way I could think of. Just resting all the time makes her weaker and weaker. Now Angel is trying to run!! She is 1.8 lb and a year and a half old. She is fragile, but healthy. She waddles because of a cerebrial brain injury when born or in the womb. Also she is very alert and quite bright. She can sit for her treat even.....She is a miracle baby.....don't give up hope...your baby can very well LIVE! Prayers your way....Cathe |
Gidget is doing a little better tonight. I had my husband go buy some of the gerber meat sticks and we mixed a little of that with some chicken and she ate it right up. We also switched from karo syrup to honey, and I think that has given her a boost also. Even more exciting news, I weighed her about half an hour ago and she weiged 9 oz. Yeah!!!!! We will take every ounce we can get. I will keep you all updated, as I know this is just a baby step in the long road ahead. |
Hooray Gidget!! Keep up the good work - keep eating and drinking and gaining weight. We are all rooting for you little girl!!! |
YAY Gidget!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work, Momma! |
Wow!!!! Impressive..... I was pulling for Gidget from the first thread......and now see what your persistance has done.......you will have a wonderful bond with her when she gets older..... Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! |
Gidget ate another good breakfast. It took some convincing, but once she got started she did real well. I hope the last couple of feedings are signs of good things to come. You have all been so wonderful. Thank you again. |
