I sure hope little Gidget likes her new chicken dinner and gobbles it right down. I am sending thoughts and prayers your way that Gidget will thrive in your obviously great care. |
I'm sorry that your tiny one is feeling icky:( We went through this with Luna, though she wasn't quite as tiny (2 lbs) I can't imagine an 8 oz baby, omg! Try the formula that was linked in the previous post. It saved my Luna's life, the nutrical just keeps spiking the blood sugar, only for it to crash down just as quickly again. That baby needs food, protein and carbs balanced. You need to force feed her if she won't eat, but I bet once she tastes it she'll gobble up the next feeding. This formula is from an excellent breeder in my area and it's what she's weaned her puppies on for over 30 years. Once you get her eating willingly, you can start softening puppy kibble and mixing that into the formula and slowly increasing the kibble and decreasing the formula. Prayers going out for Gidget and you:love:!!!!!!!!! EDIT: I forgot to say that the Nutrical is great for an emergency episode, but it's only meant for that. We had an awful vet that told us to feed luna a TEASPOON full of that every hour, it's a wonder she's not diabetic now! |
Everyone here offers superb advices. I just wanted to add that if you do buy baby food for her, make sure the ones you buy does not contain any onion or garlic. Its bad for them. |

Wow, I just posted about something like this the other day. The little female had the same thing, and had passed out, but the vet revived her. She was told to use nutrical and try to put some weight on her. I agree, it sounds like 8weeks was to soon to take her from her mom. She should see a vet, good luck to you and your puppy. |
Kodak, the original poster stated further down that this puppy is part of a litter that she has. ;) |
Did Gidget eat the chicken? |
She liked the chicken Gidget really liked the chicken, but ate just a small amount. My husband is concerned that it won't digest well, so he is afraid to give her to much. I was just happy to see her eating. She was still weak this morning, but I gave her some more chicken, then we syringe fed her with some Hill's A/D food and esbilac formula. We have also put some karo syrup in her water that we have to syringe give her. I will keep you all up to date. Thanks for all of the support. |
Oh good - at least she ate something....Please keep us posted ok ? I was thinking about her last night and was so glad to see this.... and feel free to ask ANY questions - there's always someone here who can help you :) :) |
When I got Cali she was the runt of the litter 1 lb at 10 weeks, and had 3 episodes of hypoglycemia and numerous visits to the vet for other health issues. I fed her every 2-3 hours the first 3 months and fed her cesars wet food because it was the only food she would eat. I just watched her like a hawk and took her to the vet if she looked the least bit off and a year later she is doing great and weighs almost 5 lbs. Sounds like you are doing everything right!! Good luck |
1/2 Lb Goodness......i Am So Sorry For Your Baby....poor Thing |
You already got some great advice. I just want to wish you all the best with your little one. |
puppy I would ask the vet for some meds to keep on hand for a possible bowel upset..when they start eating different types of food it can happen so fast adn waiting until morning can be too late for a tiny...keep on top of it..Good Luck |
I'm so worried I'm scared. I have made up some of the formula from the recipe that was in the link and Gidget ate some of that. She seemed to like it and I will definately continue, but no matter if she eats or not, she has absolutely no energy. She just sleeps. Talked to the vet again and he says we are doing everything we can. It is just so stressful to see this little girl that I love not doing well. I'm just afraid it is a matter of time and that breaks my heart. It is so hard to believe that you can grow to love something so much that has been with you just a short period of time. Say a prayer that Gidget makes it through this. |
Praying for Gidget right now! I wouldn't be afraid to give her the chicken, if she'll eat it at least is some nurishment and food. If you're worried about if it will digest well, maybe you could puree it, mix it with a little bit of water and put it in the blender so that its softer. Just a thought....really hope your little one pulls through  |
