| throwing up blood Hi, My Megan (8 lb) yorkie threw up blood today, we have been at the emergency vet all day. She won't take her pills, I have tried every trick I know. Now she has bloody diarrhea, the vet said that it may be an ulcer we really wanted to bring her home tonight but now I wonder if we did the right thing? I know I can call the ER vet anytime day or night but it worries me. Has anyone had a pet with this problem? |

| Chachi has had bloody diahrea before. They can have a bowl irritation and have that. The throwing up of blood would have me concerned though. And whenever they are vomiting and have diahrea both you know something is going on with them. I hope you get to the bottom of it

| The only way I could get Lucy to take her pill was to cut a vienna sausage in half and insert the pill then give it to her. She ate it with no problem along with the pill. (but I don't know about you doing that with your baby because of the possible ulcer )

| Thanks I have tried hiding it in lunch meat, but the bulk of the sausage may help hide the pill and taste. She only threw up once and the vets did xrays and an ultrasound on her abdomin. I just have to pray it all stops with the meds, if I can get them down her. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | IF the vet says you can do this - soak the pill in water ..then mash it up then put it in a syringe - if you can make some chicken broth even better - that way you know she's getting it and I wish you all the best - I hope she'll be ok bless her heart - you must be worried sick |

| Punkin had this a week ago Hello... Punkin is doing well this week..and thank god..its very scary...Its a good thing if you left your dog at the vet they will give her IV to keep her from dehydrating and watch her closely. I brought Punkin home the same night only because my vet didnt have someone to watch her overnight but she was also very alert...eating and playing... they took xrays and did blood tests and stool samples... it turned out because of something I fed her she had gastritis... they gave me five different meds... and syringes.. I put the pills in the bottom of the syringe...tiny bit of warm water..and waited till the became liquified...and then just held punkins mouth and slide it in the side of her mouth and squeezed....she gagged and made faces but swallowed it all... I hope all goes well with your baby.. please keep me updated.. Thanks Kim |

| I don't want to alarm you or cause you unnecessary worry but my mom's dog a Collie at the age of 10 yrs. had this (Throwing up blood and bloody stool) originally they thought it could be colitis, but they did a catscan and found a mass This is probably not the case, but have them check just in case. I hope everything works out for your little one. Elaine |

| Baby is also sick. She vomited a few times, and I brought her to the vet. She also has diarrhea. I've been feeding her boiled chicken, white rice, a little cottage cheese, and a little Pedialite. I hide the pills in the cottage cheese. She's so hungry she gobbles everything up! Good luck!

| Amy mucus or blood or both in stool? Could be coccidiosis. Have vet do stool sample. You dont need a visit for that. Some yogurt w/cultures meanwhile may help. Albon is used to treat coccidiosis, vet usually says 10 days, thats so you'll have to come back a time or 2. http://www.beaglesunlimited.com/beag...occidiosis.htm Albon 5% tastes good for 20days http://entirelypets.stores.yahoo.net/alli516oz.html its expensive but cheaper then all the vet visits & stays good for a long time. Use as a prevenative. |

| Don't give Peptobismal with stomach bleeding or anytime you suspect ulcers because it is basically pure aspirin and will only worsen the problem. The lining of the stomach replenishes itself amazingly quick so hopefully with the regular use of the Pepcid she will be back to normal in no time. |
