| Pale Gums? my little snickers is only 3 months old, the very first time i had him, he had pale gums. When i took him to the vet for his first vet check, the vet said his gums were pale because he was teething. this was when he was like only 8 weeks old. BUT NOW he still has pale gums. is this normal? shouldnt the paleness in his gums go away by now? |

| Are his gums actually pale or simply lighter in color? If you push on them gently w/ the broad side of a finger do they turn white for a second and then the color immediately returns? If not, I'd be conerned. What did the vet say about his heart when he listened to it? Anything? |

| pale gums can sometimes be Anemia, since he is young you may want to have your vet do a blood draw to check his red/white blood cells. Also make sure he is on a quality puppy food (he may not be getting the vitamins his young system needs) and or add pet tinic to his daily diet. hope this helps

| Understandably so. I can't see what you're talking about to say if I'd be the same though. If your vet says he/she is okay, then either trust that or get a second opinion, please. Don't worry yourself...it may be nothing. |

| Pale gums can be an indication of low blood sugar, anemia or dehydration. I would be a little concerned too. |

| Well, this may not be true for dogs. But in my goats, if their gums are pale it's a sign of worms.

| The vet told me pale gums can indicate worms..but also can occur when they are under stress even simple things like travelling or sudden changes in routine, in which case they wouldn't remain pale...if they are continually pale I would suspect worms as the anemia can be caused by worms taking the blood from the puppy.

| I thought pale gums were either low blood sugar or they are cold or have low temp. I'm going to look it up.

| I don't know what your relationship with your vet is. But -- if my vet told me not to worry - I wouldn't. I really do trust her completely. Plus there are a lot of other things you should be considering. Especially, is your little puppy happy, healthy, playful, eating well, and going to the bathroom normally. Is he his usual self? If I could answer "yes" to all of these questions - and my vet told me not to worry - I wouldn't. Good luck - I hope your little guy has no serious problems. Carol Jean |
